One day, "I heard those words: the average millionaire wakes up at 4:00 in the morning.
I didn’t particularly want to be a millionaire, but I felt that if I could wake up at 4 am, I could have one more hour to do more in the morning.
Then I started my “30-day challenge: waking up at 4 am everyday.
But in reality it was not so easy...

I think the most important when waking up early is to be able to have 7 to 9 hours of sleep : i used to wake up at 4 am when i was doing my phd. Now i'm waking up around 5:30, because I do want to see my friends a little more, and most of them are only available in the evening, because of their works. Aligning our lifestyle on our priorities and daily needs is certainly important ❤ congratulations on achieving the challenge!

Wonderful video as always, Aki. I really appreciated your "fun and happy" approach to waking up so early, rather than thinking of it as simply being a productivity hack. I've always cherished early morning time, though I tend to time my waking with the sunrise, so it varies according to the season :)
  • Minimalist Mother in the UK here -- these videos are great, and I appreciate you taking the time to do it and share your findings. What I found most enlighening was that you talked about the positive feelings that come from waking up in a positive way. I think this can be applied no matter what time of day you're waking up - getting away from the bed, the positive pose, doing something you love in the morning - those are the best take-aways! <3 So I think for me that will translate to still waking up at 5am with my toddler boy and instead enjoying my coffee and playtime with him without any focus on the day's tasks - because I think that will really help set me up for a wonderful day. :) Thanks, Aki. You're such a great and well-intentioned guy. I really look forawrd to your videos. :)

I used to have a really long commute and had to get up very early. I did actually get up extra early to get some yoga in before spending so much time in transit and one of my favourite tools was a daylight alarm. There's lots of different brands out there but they mimic the sunrise so you wake up in your shallow sleep phase instead of an REM / deep sleep phase which is usually the reason for feeling tired upon waking. There's also settings for birdsong which gradually increases or other sounds, radio etc but the light itself is already doing the job to wake you up without even needing an audible alarm! They can also be set in reverse for sunset before going to bed. Couldn't recommend this enough!
  • A very motivating video. Even if we can’t keep these hours, we can still learn from this and try to maximize the morning time we do have. Thank you. This was fun to watch!

That is awesome, good for you!! Instead of getting up at 6am as usual, I will try to get up at 5am instead. It's a good start!

Always a smile on my face watching your videos. I try waking up 10 minutes earlier each day until I get to 5am!
  • Wonderful video - you're an inspiration! I've always struggled with getting up earlier but you've inspired me to give it a serious go. The WHY is definitely the key!

Hai Aki, I discovered your channel a few days ago and I really enjoy watching your videos, they bring me a little moment of peace and joy during my much cherished kid-free coffee time. I loved being an early bird, you can get so much done in the morning and once you're done you still have the entire day ahead of you. 😊Also you've inspired me to look differently at my belongings and though I doubt I will ever reach the point of becoming an actual minimalist I am definitely going to reduce the amount of stuff I own and be more appreciative of the things I do choose to keep. 🥰
  • Thank you from Australia for another happy video ❤ Thanks to you, I now have a mattress on the floor and a whole new early morning routine - not quite 4am though 😅 I look forward to going to sleep AND to waking up 🙌 I used to dread both ❤

Thank you so much for sharing details and your journey of joining 4am. I have started this new routine for believing in benefiting a lot but did not know how to deal with my emotions for loosing my social life at night life
  • Oh my gosh! I would never be able to complete this challenge, I always wake up at 6:00 so that would be so difficult. Congradulations!

Dear, thank you for your lovely video! Waking up early (especially if you have children) is not easy but it is soooo worth it! What helped me was to know my WHY? Why I want to wake up earlier than my family? :-) Greetings from Atlanta City! Pavlina
  • I have a father who has been probably one the most productive people I have ever known. One his habits has always been getting up between 4 and 4.30, in which he would exercise and do other things before the house is disturbed. He is close to 80. The FEW times I have done it , it REALLY is like a miracle hour. My issue is that I have not been able to go to bed before 10.30/11...but I still get up at 5 to get us ready for school/work. I must prioritise this for my health. Thanks for this video. I will challenge myself.

It doesn't feel like your day is longer if you go to sleep earlier. Still the same amount of time awake/ asleep, but less social interaction.
