Her singing this song with that level of emotions, on the top of the Eiffel Tower, in the middle of a rainy night in Paris, it's like pure poetry.

This is her 'I love you' to her dead husband, her diceased parents and siblings, to all her fans, but above all, it's the most profound and unabashed declaration of love to the French language and culture that her native Quebec shares with France, in front of the whole world.

I love Piaf, and haven’t heard ANYONE do Piaf better than Piaf. Until now. Celine knocked it out of the park. She is channeling the heart and soul of the Little Sparrow, yet made it her own. I dare say Celine has never sounded more glorious. Her mature voice reflects her life, her trials, her heart. Brava, Maitress, BRAVA!
  • @akennas
She sang it to her late husband - that's why it was so deeply performed. Brava!

When Celine sings in French, she sings from her heart and soul.

The moment she opened her mouth I had goosebumps and I don’t even know French 💅

I listen to rap like Tupac, DMX, Eminem, etc but this was the best performance I have ever seen. I was in tears for real. Her voice is unmatched

This song by Piaf is part of the musical heritage of my country and Céline's interpretation was simply magnificent. I think the emotion has crossed languages and cultures around the world, a song written by a woman (Piaf) for the man she loved (Cerdan) and who died shortly after; Céline's story ties in with Piaf's story (the death of the loved one) which makes the meaning and interpretation of this song even stronger and I admit it made me cry. Merci Céline.

I think they will talk about this performance hundreds of years from now. It was perfect and at the right time and place. This and Jimi Hendrox's Woodstock performance are my all time favorite performances. Just amazing.

When you sing in your mother tongue your soul and your heart are there. Merci Céline, on t'aime. La France te remercie. VIVE LE QUÉBEC

She sang this same song in 2015 ( search the title song with Celine and you'll find it). SPS was already affecting her voice somewhat pronounced, in her performance, even then. She wasn't able to hit the higher notes in 2015. This performance tonight was so much better and she had so much more confidence in her abilities. I cried the entire time. I can't imagine how emotional she was while singing. During the pause of her lyrics, you could tell she was keeping it together, so she didn't become too emotional. I imagine she cried with joy, afterwards. I was so thankful. I was probably more nervous than she was!

It was an ode to optimism and art. This ceremony was a message for all the « peine-à-jouir » who love to hate and denigrate everything.

She may never perform at the capacity she once did....but this performance was an experience of a lifetime...The courage to grace a worldwide stage in front of millions..To believe in oneself to find the strength to take that chance...She said she would.....and her gift from God shone through magnificently....Bravo Celine!!!

We were touched by that performance. It's something Celine is able to do. She touches people...There's always a star that comes out of every Olympics and we're already found that star. Nothing against the athletes, but Celine stole the show.

I was the only male nurse in my unit today, straight as an arrow... And I balled my eyes out after seeing this performance live 😂
  • When I saw her documentary first time, I wrote in comments: Celine, I believe, your voice will go on!!!! I m happy that it has happened. It was tremendous performance, it was the icing on the cake of the opening ceremony.

Celine sang this from the very depths of her life and managed to envelop the world in everything she is, everything she has lived and I felt the spirit of Piaf was with her. I cried as did many watching from all parts of the world.
