Dan Spitz, who played lead guitar for the metal band Anthrax, left the group in the '90s to pursue an unexpected path: master watchmaking. Now, he's one of the top watchmakers in the world, but can still shred a guitar like it's 1983.

I still have one of Dan's guitar picks from the very first MTV Headbanger's Ball Tour. It was April 14th, 1989 in Dallas, with Exodus and Helloween, I was screaming my ass off on the front row and when he threw the pick it landed in my mouth - which is probably the only reason I got out without loosing it. This revelation brings a whole new appreciation for one of my favorite Anthrax tunes, Got The Time. Thanks for all the good times, Dan.

Kind of suits him. He always looked so calm during soloing, didn't even move an inch while he played. :D

Co-founded one of the biggest metal bands ever, joined an elite watchmaking school in Switzerland, and now works in a secret lab in Grand Central Terminal. Badass.

When you're in the zone it's like being in a State of Euphoria......(subtle, very subtle Dan)

Fun fact his brother played bass for Black Sabbath
  • I really miss Dan in Anthrax, but props to him for doing what he wants to do. If he's happy, good luck to him.
  • Not a freak - purely fantastic to work on so much beauty in such a small space.

Love this! This is what happens when passion meets technique, and Spitz has always had that fire. Plus, I love seeing metal folk doing the nerdy things they love. I love metal and I'm a librarian! LOL

I can attest to the fact that Danny's good with his hands. He beat me up on my front lawn when we were kids - maybe 10 or 12. Elite watchmakers are probably more rare than elite guitarists. Congrats to him on a phenomenal achievement.
  • Ticking in my head....now I know what persistence in time is about....hehehe

"Is a feeling of euphoria…". Damn! How I love that song! Favorite song from that album. Be all, and you´ll be the end all, life can be a real ball… state of mind euphoria!

This is mind blowing engineering and machinery. That is so cool that he took this route
