The "house" is a brothel. The "ball and chain" is addiction. The summary of the song is "like father like son, he was a gambler and I guess so am i."

One of the most powerful vocals ever. This video captured in a SINGLE TAKE, which was all they could afford. An epic performance.

My late wife's all time favourite record. Eric Burdon's amazing vocal performances are legendary. He re-recorded this song in, I think, 2009 and it is even better. He's 81 and still performing.

The House of The Rising Sun is a gambling den/brothel. The House is the manifestation of his addiction to his vices. It's his "ball-and-chain", his true mistress. He, like his father before him, is hopelessly addicted to it's thrills, pleasures, and debauchery. The song is basically about him coming to terms with this fact.

Eric Burden is one of the most underrated british vocalist ever to come from these isles, The Animals along with The Spencer Davis Group, The Yardbirds & The Small Faces are responsible for some of the greatest british music of all time.

Eric Burdon was the BOMB! And his band had soul. That organ riff is epic.

Imagine that powerful voice coming out of that young kid! Fantastic! Eric Burdon has had quite a life. He is 82 now. He wrote two books about his experiences and they really are good reads.

This is a super old American folk song that's been rewritten, reperformed, etc by a number of musicians over hundreds of years. The lead belly version is pretty awesome too. The American Congress Library has a whole section on classic American folk and its worth checking out.

A stone cold classic. A simple arpeggio, stunning organ work and Eric Burdon's vocals (looks like a boxer, sounds like a fallen angel). Can't beat that. And Eric is still alive and well. They came from that time in British pop where everyone was into old-school R'n'B and authentic blues that gave the world some of the finest musicians to have ever lived. Glad you enjoyed it mate.

If you thought the Animals were American you're wrong, they're an English rock/blues band from Newcastle, North England. Eric is a legend.

In my opinion The Animals didn't make a bad song. One of the best bands of all time. And Eric Burden's voice?... Absolutely Brilliant!!! Thank you for shining a light on perhaps a little bit of forgotten greatness. ❤
