I don't understand why his 26 yo gf would leave him after finding out he has no money.
-
He is 72 and his girl is 26.....what can possibly go wrong?? lol
-
I'm in the Philippines at $800 a month. No problems at all. Same wife for 8 years. She is now 28. Electricity $60. Water $8 Property tax. $2 a year. Food for 4 of us about $300. Built my own house so it's free.
-
He raised 7 kids and I bet his kids canโt even send him 100 dollars each per month (700 total) which could help this guy a lot for a grand total of 1500 USD per month. Thatโs how thankful kids are to their parents nowadays.

One thing I learned about transferring money, is to open at least 4 different bank accounts with internet access in my home country and with 4 ATM cards. That way if one ATM card fails for any reason I can transfer money online to my another bank account and use the other ATM card to access cash. Don't forget ATMs have a nasty habit of eating one's ATM card, so having more then one way to access ones cash is important

The cage around his porch and bars on the windows and doors make me wonder how safe his area is.
-
The biggest nightmare of being an expat is have something go wrong with your home country banking.
-
It's the same any where in the world. If someone is with you for anything else but you, when whatever that thing runs out, that person will be gone. Whether it's money, looks, whatever...

Set up an account with Philippines National Bank. They're the only Philippines bank that truly interfaces with the USA. They have an office in Manhattan, New York City. Then you can just use Remitly or something like that to transfer funds.
-
Randy gets it, while he's dealing with an access issue to his own funds his mind is on helping his neighbors, a fantastic mindset. Happiness comes in all shapes and sizes and mostly big hearts.
-
I love how happy he is however Iโd be so nervous trying to live off $800. Medical is out of reach and forget flying back to the US to see the kids and grandkids. If a electric bill invoice and donations will make or break you then the planning wasnโt there. God bless you ๐๐ป and I pray no hardships

Charles Schwab is literally the best bank for travel
-
I am 65 and returning to retire soon in the Philippines. I would be very happy to reach Randyโs age with the same vigor and disposition. Heโs my inspiration.
-
Charles Schwab is the answer and they refund all ATM fee's each month. I've been using CS in the Philippines. Charles Schwab is all over the world. It's easy to set up an account.
-
My Filipina and I got married when I was stationed there. Going on 32 years. I am 69 and she is 56. I get SS and Retired Military. But, we live in the states.
-
I love it. Am planning live there when I retire in 2024 and Iโm looking forward to meeting you guys.
-
Rob Reiner, That's who Randy reminds me of, Hilarious, my kind of guy. He is comfortable in his situation, reminds me of local Filipino's, no matter the hardship, they still keep a positive attitude, and keep on smiling.
-
One option would be to open a dollar account in a local bank. You can deposit a personal check from a US dollar account and have it post in about 2 or 3 weeks depending on the bank. The Philippine banks usually charge about a 5 dollar service fee, no matter the amount. If he doesn't have a sizeable chunk in savings or a credit card with a decent available balance for medical emergencies, he's gonna be in a hurt locker when he has to be hospitalized.
-
jeez whiz, i collect military & police pensions(Calpers) on top of social. i could live in the phillipines like a king. thx for the continuous encouragement

Stayed n the Philippines for 3 years,no problem with my Wells Fargo Bank account and they donโt charge international fee when taking out money from atm.
