  • Enter the desert, turn right ONCE. Walk in straight line until out of desert. You're welcome.

Wow, thank you for the shout-out SNES drunk! :D
  • This game was my first introduction to JRPGs in general when a friend brought it over for an afternoon get-together. He played it up to the mansion portion where the heroes were fending off the ghosts before we all called it quits and went on with whatever kids stuff we did those days. Took a couple of years and testing out other JRPGs on demo discs (like Legend Of Dragoon) before I got around to revisiting Breath Of Fire III by buying my own copy and finishing it. Since then, it's been a neverending journey to complete even more JRPG titles ranging from Suikoden and the Chrono series to Shadow Hearts and Star Ocean.

This game is amazing. One of the best RPGs of all time in my opinion.
  • @8thLife
"Unfortunately if you're a lunatic like me who has to check everything" Yup, me too. 😂
  • I remember playing the European PSP version of this when I got my PSP nearly 10 years ago. Momo is my favorite character in the game. That PSP version actually came out in Japan and Europe in 2006 though.

One of those games i could finish as a kid with unlimited time but nowadays drop after a couple of hours. Still great though

I just finished playing this a few mins ago. Left off in the desert. Love this game.
  • @DougGarrett
I love your quick to the point reviews. Keep up the good work.
  • @Zarbula
Thanks for the PSP mention. Would be fun to play this game again.

This game is hugely underrated, I stumbled onto this game about 12 years ago while searching for any older turn based rpg from the 8/16 bjt or ps1 days when I realised the 2 snes games had ps1 sequels and I was hooked. Honestly such an overlooked gem of an rpg
  • This was fantastic, I really appreciate it. I'm 34 and a longtime fan of BOF2 and SNES in general, hence me being a sub of yours. I always wondered about BOF3 and 4 because I missed out on them at the time. This was very helpful. If possible, please do a review of breath of fire 4 also

I was just looking up videos related to this game and was shocked to find anything from 2019. 3 months late but still feels nice to me that people haven't forgotten this masterpiece.
  • @shadda
I can't believe you didn't mention the badass dragon combo transformation system. I loved that.
  • On another note, i'm just glad you take a look at another classic RPG of PS1. And it's another great review from you as always. Keep being awesome, man.

I remember playing this a couple of times when I was younger, but couldn't get too far because the story didn't seem to make a lot of sense. I enjoyed the gameplay and for a time when JRPGs were a dime a dozen, I think this one is definitely worth a revisit. Thanks for the review!

Love this review man! One of my favorite PS RPGs! Would love to see more PS RPG reviews from you!
  • @VanDrauss
Thank you for reviewing this game! I loved BoF 1 and BoF 2, but never played any of the later installments of the series. It seemed to me that all of the later titles got mediocre/lackluster reviews, and so I never made much of an effort to check them out. I had no idea that BoF 3 looked like this --- gorgeous sprite work that has aged significantly better than the polygons offered up by its contemporary RPGs on the PSX. I'm adding this on my games-to-play list as of today. Thanks, SNES Drunk!
