George Orwell defined doublethink as "the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.

When it comes to war, spending, and more, President Barack Obama's 2010 State of the Union address showed that doublethink is alive and well in Washington, D.C.

Approximately two minutes.

Written and produced by Paul Feine.

  • Aged like fine wine. Still a YouTube classic. I'm surprised this hasn't got taken down
  • As time goes by, Barrack Obama has to be one of the most intelligent manipulators I’ve ever seen. Honestly in awe at his ability.

Wow. Who knew that something from one of my favorite books would become so horrifically true.
  • So, Mr. president, if you were for the bank bailout that was supposed to, as you say, fix the economy, and you hated the bank bailout, then are you saying that you hated trying to fix the economy?

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail

1984 is a book that should be a must read for anybody who does not want to be a tool.

Pretty poor example of doublethink in my opinion. The draw-down in Iraq and the buildup in Afghanistan are not irreconcilable positions! The same goes for the recovery act and the bank bailouts both being completely different initiatives. I'm as big a fan of Orwell and 1984 as anybody, but this misrepresents what doublethink really was. Someone from 1984 engaging in doublespeak would seem absolutely NUTS to anybody today. Our presidents' positions are not contradictory. They are pragmatic.
  • i just viewed your vid x2...I hadn/t fully appreciated it on my first viewing: THIS IS A BRILLIANTLY DONE LITTLE GEM!! BRAVO AGAIN.

Lame editing. "As we take the fight to al-Qaeda, we are responsibly leaving Iraq to its people. As a candidate, I promised that I would end this war, and that is what I am doing as President. We will have all of our combat troops out of Iraq by the end of this August." does not conflict with: "In Afghanistan, we are increasing our troops and training Afghan Security Forces so they can begin to take the lead in July of 2011, and our troops can begin to come home." Exactly as he's said for years.
  • I love 1:10. John McCain is like "Man, he is almost as wishy washy as me."
  • "Slick Willie"? Barry is far more slippery that the decaying old frame from Hope.

@smiledammit24 I was under the impression he performed well, can you elaborate? I'm thinking of health care, the lame duck session and Egypt, all of which I see as being solved in the best way that was possible under the circumstances. And can you give me specifics on how he's demonizing people?

When history has been written, the shocking revelation will be his I.Q. and how he performed in school.
  • "Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Double Side."
  • @mreloid
I listened to the whole speech, I agree with him.
  • An added and unforeseen bonus from the Census is the fact that they have been doing it since the late 1700s and much of those records are publicly available, so if you are researching your families genealogical heritage it is a great way to track down your living and deceased family members.
