    The USA now reminds me of the USSR in the 80s. The balance of power is majorly in favour of the elderly. Biden, Trump, Pelosi, Sanders, McConnell, Feinstein, Grassley, Hoyer. Trump is the youngest of this bunch, at 78. A grim a topic as it is, all of these are nearing their deathbed, and there is a chance these deaths come in quick succession (Biden and Trump are the most noted by the media for this situation) which happened for the USSR. When Brezhnev died, Andropov and Chernenko only lasted for a little over a year before dying in office. The role of general secretary was soon passed on to Gorbechev, who lead the modernisation process which caused the end of the USSR. If the American public and the powers that be outside of Trump and Biden do not act swiftly to empower the younger generation of American politicians, you will end up facing Soviet levels of political instability that, as the USSR showcased, you are not guaranteed to recover from.

    Theodore Roosevelt never ran as an independent. He ran as a Republican. He did start his own party, Bull Moose Party, but he ended up splitting the Republican vote.
