I wouldn't say Sephiroths story in any way demonized mental illness. He would be a better metaphor to one of those old Vietnam vets that the government used to experiment on like Jacob's ladder. Its a revelation of horrible experiments not a revelation of a mental illness that causes Sephiroth to go mad.

The reason vincent can equip the Masamune is because in the flashback, Sephiroth essentially uses Vincent's character data as a place holder which is the reason why Vincent turns into Sephiroth when using a gameshark to force Sephiroth into your party

Zidane telling Garnet that he will follow wherever she goes isn’t because he thinks she’s a leader. It’s because over the course of the game she becomes a central element in his life and he is willing to give up everything else to follow the object of his adoration. Those are very different things.
  • Aerith offering free date to cloud maybe because zack offered a free date to her before in crisis core.

one of the writers of FF tweeted out that no Arth is NO an escort

25:45 FFXV actually keeps up the pattern, with Iris (Gladio's sister) as the sweet, innocent girl, Cidney/Cindy as the sexuality (the first time we see her is a gratuitous ass shot), and Lunafreya as the wisdom/wife figure, as she's calm and collected
  • its heavily implied in the original ff7 game that Vincent is in fact Sephiroth's biological father, there's a hidden side quest that explains it.

30:58 I have always subscribed to the theory that Jenova is the one controlling Sephiroth. I think it plays to the overall themes of the story better and makes Sephiroth a more interesting character. Jenova itself doesn't need to be sentient; it's a parasite on the planet, and is a reflection of Shinra. It asks the question, "Where does evil come from? Is evil within us or does it come from the sky?" Sephiroth, born by both Shinra and Jenova, is caught in the middle. He (and Cloud) must decide who they are: Human or Alien? Sentient or puppet? Driven by the question "Who am I?" I think these are valuable themes for young audiences to reflect on in their own lives. These are the themes I want the remake to explore further. I'm very happy they have set the remakes up to tell their own story, but I desperately hope they don't get caught up in these multiple universes shenanigans. I don't find "exploring the multiverse of Final Fantasy" to be all that interesting and I feel it is a distraction from better stories to be told.
  • I thought Kefka's tower being a massive allusion to The Divine Comedy was confirmed by the creators.

The ultimecia "hero" theory reminds me of a quote: "you will have to suffer greatly, but that is a sacrifice i am willing to make"
  • @urogoth
When it came to Sephiroth knowing things that didn't happen yet, I thought it was Advent Children's Sephiroth somehow coming back and going back in time.
  • Aerith being an escort is such a terrible reach Im surprised it didn't clash with Seph's sword.

Ultimecia's motivations were explained in the original game. The point of Time Compression was to summon forth every witch who ever lived, so Ultimecia could consolidate their power into herself and become Godlike.

"Emet-Selch is eventually revealed to be an ancient figure from Final Fantasy III" ... I'm sorry what? I... am utterly baffled as to how anyone could come to that conclusion

Aerith latches onto strong men for subconscious need for protection due to being the last Ancient whilst being hunted by evil men with limitless resources. Before Cloud she was in a serious relationship with Zack. When he died, she sees similarities with Zack in Cloud, parred with fact Cloud is banded with Martial Arts expert Tifa & Yuffie, last of race Nanaki, walking tank Barret she felt subconsciously safe and free to be herself!

Nope about the naga. Her baby had been trapped and killed. She thus got trapped looking for her baby in the tunnels, prompto was the first person she saw so she snatched him because she assumed THEY took her baby. I hated that cave.

The Rufus Shinra theory is actually confirmed by Before Crisis, at least in part. His goals were not originally altruistic, but over time they did become so, as he began to feel more empathy towards Avalanche over time. If it weren't for him, Elfe would be dead, for example. He faked her death alongside Tseng to protect her and give her a chance to live a normal life

Me and friends of mine thought and still think that vincent is the true father of sephiroth. Vincent had a close relationship with Lucretia. Not only was he her bodyguard, he was also in love with her and she probably with him too. It would make fitting and sense that they were secretly together and lukrezia was actually pregnant by vincent and not hojo. In addition, Vincent suddenly decides to go with Cloud and stop Sephiroth. It would be fitting that he thought and saw a personal responsibility in fighting and stopping Sephiroth as he is his secret son. Even the appearance speaks for the fact that he is more the father than hojo. that with masamune would only confirm this.
