Looking back at classic beat-em-up games, you obviously have your Streets of Rage, Double Dragons, Final Fights, and Golden Axes (among many others). However, right at the top of that list among the greats are the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games!

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!!! 7 year old me is stupidly happy with the current resurgence of TMNT video games over the last year. In today's video, I take a look at the games found in the Cowabunga Collection and how they were made in the 1st place!

Also, let's give a massive shout-out to Konami once again, who were kind enough to sponsor the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection segments in this video, and of course they provided me a code too for capture purposes!

Now, let's just get one thing clear straight off the bat... THIS IS NOT A REVIEW... of course, it's not... if you want to see a review, YouTube is full of them! It is, however, a look back at the history of these classic titles in a typical Complete History Slope's Game Room way.

This video was great fun to work on as it covers almost everything Turtle-related up to the point when they left the pixel-art 16bit and arcade days behind and started to experiment with the 32bit generations! If you guys are interested, please do let me know as I may just expand on this Complete History and create a full-length version that covers EVERYTHING!!!!

Anyway, thanks for the support guys, and thanks to Konami for continuing to sponsor the channel once again with the Cowabunga Collection parts of this video.

  • As a dad, I tried introducing my now adult son to things from my childhood. Star Wars,Star Trek, GI Joe, Ghostbusters, Transformers….nope. But TMNT, OMG. We’re playing this collection together on Switch now. Love it.
  • @thecowboy2
The Hyperstone Heist did have one new asset in the Dojo level - Tatsu, who was Shredder's right hand man in the first 2 live action TMNT films.
  • This was one of your best yet, Dan. Thanks for letting me have a small part in it. Cheers!
  • The Manhattan project was my favorite. Turtles in time was great when you had a friend to play with but it was easy and the Manhattan project I remember being able to fling sand the enemies blowing my mind LOL. I definitely remember it and it's fantastic
  • Seeing those green heroes in their shells, hearing the original renditions of those classic soundtracks and sweating under the current temperatures in summer I getting knocked back into my childhood immediately. Those never ending days of summer with your friends, re-playing scenes of your favourite TV series and ending the day by ordering pizza and playing multiplayer in front of your SNES and Mega Drive til' the moms call each friend home one by one. Miss those easy days full of joy, friends, family and videogames so much.
  • @audrisampson
I absolutely loved tmnt fighters on the NES. Rented it probably a dozen times. Probably created my love of one on one fighters.
  • @C0ldIron
Am I the only one that flinch he said “titles in a half shell”?
  • @FallicIdol
I was blown away by the graphics of the first Gameboy game. Until then, I had only seen Tetris and Super Mario Land.
  • Another awesome video, Slope! Congratulations on working with Konami and bringing us more content. I'll definitely have to pick this up for my switch!
  • @Shritistrang
Fall of the Foot Clan was the first TMNT game I ever heard of. I saw my friends playing it on their Gameboy and I told my parents I wanted a Turtles game as well. Since I only had a Gameboy back then and not a NES, they bought it for me... or rather, they bought Back from the Sewers. I was confused that the game was so different from the one my friends played, but as I played more of it, I grew to love it. It helped solidify my fondness of not only TMNT, but also Nintendo games as a whole.
  • @darktetsuya
indeed the moment this was announced I knew I had to pick it up asap, and after it dropped last month that's just what I did! had to pick it up physically just to have it that way. it's definitely been a humongous nostalgia trip for me, a good chunk of the games I remember playing in arcades and at home! and not to mention the turtle truckload of extras, old ads, design documents (many of with with english translations!) and many box and manual scans there's so much extra stuff it's just mindblowing! a definite must-own for any retrogamer turtles fan!
  • @LeoVaderBR
This collections is definitely a labor of love, due to the care and detail they assembled in one title. I wish more of this initiative could be done to other older IPs. And congratulations for the video. Amazing quality as always.
  • @SPac316
Yes, I would like to see at least a part two pf this covering all the modern TMNT games based on the show from the early 2000s,2007 film, 2012, etc.
  • @bradmack7432
