If you think about it....this game almost forces you to play the game the way Ash would. Catching random pokemon and using them when you need to for fights, but otherwise only using Pikachu for the most part.

I’ve played too many ROM hacks because I was expecting some self insert character to pop up and give a Lugia or something

So I did a video on this myself and someone in my Discord server made a Game Genie code to make the EXP gain like, normal. If you wanna finish this game off, give me a shout on Twitter or something and I can give it to you. Cool to see other people looking at these NES bootlegs as well!

I noticed the scuffed EXP gain all the way back in the very first battle when Pikachu didn't level up the way it should have in actual Yellow. So, yeah, game needs, triple EXP at minimum.

Based on what I've seen from the OG chinese version of the game (one hell of rabbit hole finding it), the bootleg devs never coded the exp at all, you get ONE point of exp per beating a pokemon.

Sometimes these chinese bootlegs are insane. It reminds me of the NES Final Fantasy 7 demake that has no repeated enemies in it.

it looks like gen 2? THIS looks like gen 3. All the tree sprits, the water and the tall grass are straight out of RSE

The modders did their best in the music department. The original unmodified version has music from gen 3.

Statuses overwriting one another happened in Legends Arceus. Along with confusion being non-volatile, I don’t actually mind those changes.

Great video! This game truly was the definition of wasted potential. It was soo damn close to being great but that xp gain and item spam makes it seem like such a grind.
