"Jaden is planning drawing polymoryzation at some point during the duel" is the most evergreen statement you can make for a Jaden duel.

Who else loved that Dimitri did a Dan Green impression of Atem in the dub. I think that was a nice touch as Marc Thompson does a good job. Also, he’s voiced by Vector’s VA in the sub.
  • Funfact: In the german dub the voice actor of Yami Yugi speaks Dimitri through the whole duel, implying, he was so caught up in the act, he even changed his voice to copy (Yami) Yugi.
  • Observation: Dimitri actually does live up to the king of games deck, because he kept making every single misplay that Yami Yugi makes constantly, especially the whole "forgetting to set cards for Card of Sanctity."
  • Who knew that Dimitri would be the first to start the long tradition of seeing a deck top at Worlds and then just copy it card-for-card, he truly was the true pioneer for modern competitive Yugioh.
  • I wouldn't call Jaden attacking Dimitri directly (albeit he forgot the Kuriboh) a misplay because it's never a bad thing to force your opponent to use their clutch cards & it's not like Dimitri was going to Summon Kuriboh again since Multiply was in the GY.
  • When I first saw this duel back in at my childhood, seeing Dimitri playing Yugi’s deck made me miss the King of Games a lot sometimes. I get he sometimes gets mention or seen, but still.

Dimitri's biggest misplay was activating card of sanctity,he was in a stronger position, Jayden had no cards in his hand and he was on cause to win

I like the small detail that Dimitri was using Monster Reincarnation instead of Monster Reborn because Atem passed on after Yugi banished Monster Reborn to win in their final duel.

A little thing, I remember on the last turn in the dub Jaden says a line I really like. After activating double Spell, he says "if you need more info, just look in the official handbook under the heading, 'How'd I lose?'"
  • Notes from an Ancient Gear Mechanic; Sadly, the Yugiverse seems to have an issue with Information Distribution. Because the "Children's Card Game" is considered such a big deal, Players don't want anyone to know their Strategies or Deck's completely for fear of being hard countered. The fact that Dimitri managed to work out the Strategies for SEVERAL Prominent Duelist's from just the Media coverage & interviews shows just how intelligent and Dangerous he could truly be if he managed to make his own Deck... This is Pilot Trevelyan signing off, Game Over! P.S.; as for Jaden's mystery card.... let's say it was a Winged Kuriboh card(can't remember the name of it though).
  • I really appreciate the work that he puts into these videos, as analyzing Yugioh Duels in the later series and trying to examine every possible play each player could make is a lot of effort, especially when you have to piece together the opening hands. It's really helped me put more thought into my own scripted Duels for the Yugioh stories I write, so I just wanna say thanks for making this series, as not only is it fun to do an in depth analysis of the series I've loved for decades now, it's helped me become not only a better player at the game, but a better writer who wants to deliver the best possible story I can.
  • In all fairness, Dimitri's ability to learn off of and copy another player just based on their recorded Duels and strategies is really impressive Keep in mind, he had no time to practice with Yugi's deck and yet he was able to use it almost as if he was the King of Games himself. If Dimitri had just gone with Bastion's route he might have been really succesfull tbh. Basically, instead of trying to have one deck that he copied, he should instead have multiple decks for different types of opponents. A strategy where his knack for studying others would have been at its strongest.
  • I am surprised that the Dark Magician misplay wasn't mentioned. When Jaden summoned Bladeedge, Dimitri could have had Dark Magician destroy Burstinatrix, then summoned Dark Magician of Chaos with the spell card dedication to light darkness to destroy Bladeedge. Jaden would have been in a worse position, and probably even lost. This definitely shows that Dimitri will never use Yugi's deck as good as Yugi can.
  • While yes Jaden setting polymerization was shenanigans for card of sanctity, I don't think it's as outlandish as it looks. Yugi's deck is LEGENDARY and with how big of a fan Jaden seems to be in the short moments we get to see him talk about the King of Games, I believe Jaden and quite a few others would know a lot of the cards Yugi plays, including Cards of Sanctity, which means foresight is something Jaden absolutely has here. Jaden could have easily predicted that Dimitri would draw that card at some point because the duel has been going for a while.

Yay been looking forward to this one! Honestly I found this one pretty good two part episode. It was still early days when Jaden only had his “basic” Elemental heroes but obviously Dimitri didn’t have the “heart of the cards” of Yugi/Yami (or Yami ability to “will” cards to his hand).

In the show it mentions that Dimitri had even copied Kaiba's deck at one point. My question is how did Dimitri get his hands on 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons? He would need those to copy Kaiba's deck one for one which is impossible as there are only 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons in the Yugioh world.
  • Can there be a "Was Zigfried about to beat Kaiba video"? That was my favorite Kaiba duel of the series.
  • @bladersmosh
I can relate to Dimitri a lot. Almost every deck I play at tournaments and online are based of characters from the anime but unlike Dimitri, I use my own ideas to the mix for variety and more unpredictability. My favourites to use include Yuma, Shun and Revolver some of whom gotten me 2nd place at locals a few times which I’m proud of.

Additional misplay you didn't cover: Jaden should have set emergency provisions for a few reasons 1: If Jaden waits for the activation conditions of Hero spirit, as tributing it would have given him 1000 extra LP. 2: keeping the unknown card he tributed with his effect could be useful on a later turn potentially, so he shouldn't have activated Emergency provisions until he absolutely had to. 3: This would have had the side effect of Dimitri being unable to use spider's web to regain enough Life Points to survive Flame Wingman's effect.
