  • I noticed another little quirk with the UV-5RM. If either the vfo or memory channel is set to an AM frequency and you switch to the weather scanning function, the weather channel is just static. Presumably because the radio is stuck in AM mode. You have to go back to the main screen and set the radio to an FM frequency. Then going back into the weather channel function allows the FM signal to be received

Baofeng are obviously capable of producing a clean radio, GT-5R for one, you would think they would carry that same filtering over. Another informative video as usual.

I appreciate that your thumbnail & title hint at the direction of the video; as opposed to various other clickbait techniques. Thanks! I end up watching yours as a result! Thx!

Excellent Radio. The BF-5RH Which I have, has a great display Black background with White Digits, very sharp and clear. rather than the Blue, glad I was able to obtain this model.
  • @jorisbuis1053
I see bodies with UV-5RM and bodies with 5RM. Does enyone know if thees are the same?
  • @wadeduvall7026
I looked up the FCC ID for my AR-5RM (I can't find concrete differences between he 5RM, UV-5RM and AR-5RM) and it appears to only be certified for RX.
  • @rrl2849
W6LG also tested them on a tinySA and found them clean. Interesting.
  • I been impressed with how loud the speakers are on the 5RM and the UV-5G Plus as well as how clear they sound on transmission and love the features just don't like the Interference the usb c charging causes within 100 feet kills all other radios which is why I bought the 5rm for the charge cradle and been loving them since I been using the 5rm charge cradle 17:05 i shoe the issues in better detail on my channel @Gadget Talk

So what is really the problem with this radio? It costs $27 and has civilian air band RX. It easily transmits over 5W. So it looks like it’s perfect for hobby and for an emergency use. And it was approved by FCC. I’m just a regular user. Please elaborate on this radio more from this point of view. I appreciate it.
  • @BrianNC81
Sent mine back, the receive is very poor. Not sure if it got a defective unit. Signals loud and clear on my Yeasu or even other cheap baofengs can't be heard at all on this radio (tried multiple antennas).
  • @mrheart4242
You can use chirp next. It programs as a uv-17pro. The antenna is junk. Absolutly junk. I swapped mine to the abree ar771 reception cleaned up and transmit away cleaner. I got the 2 pack from Amazon. Nither antenna worked well.
  • @twistedlv
W6LG has a test/review video where the radio passes the harmonics tests easily. Maybe Baofeng has been working on some things. He also found the FCC cert. to be legit.
  • @mikesmith1550
I purchased this radio primarily because I live within 15 miles of three airports and wanted to listen in on the aviation traffic. Accordingly, I want to emphasize reception on the aviation band and wondered if you could recommend an antenna. I am not a ham and won't ever transmit on those frequencies. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance for your efforts. I like your site.
  • @johnbrady8345
I have posted the FCC compliance Certificate for the 5RM and also the full test results if anyone is interested
  • @mariodesmo
Well, this week Amazon has the Baofeng AR-5RM! It doesn't have the 220Mhz band, so I wonder if the filtering effect may be different on the dual band version...
  • Didnt realize how dirty these radios were Explains all the interference issues i been having not just with usb c charging but also listening and even transmission interference with other radios 21:04 @Gadget Talk
  • @mlytle0
I'm so glad more reviewers are checking the harmonics on these radios. Broadcasting clean is more important than feature sets, even though features are nice.
