I went through every Pokedex entry in Pokemon Sword and Shield to find the ones I thought were the most funny, creepy, fascinating, and just plain weird.

I thought Togekiss' Sword entry was interesting. "These Pokemon are never seen anywhere near conflict or turmoil. In recent times they've hardly been seen at all." Like is that a reference to the conflict of the game or just the general state of the world.
  • Blipbug: the pokédex is unnecessarily mocking my strength. Magikarp: first time?

I’m shocked that you didn’t mention Hatterene’s Shield dex entry. It says “If you’re too loud around it, you risk being torn apart by the claws on its tentacle. This Pokémon is known as the Forest Witch.” That means that if you accidentally yell or scream around this Pokémon then you can literally be killed violently by being gruesomely torn to pieces. Seems fitting for an E rated video game.

Researchers:"Give us the Truth!" Bronzor:"You can't handle the truth!"
  • Shield Pokedex: "Golurk may contain a perpetual motion device." Chairman Rose: "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....."
  • That Weezing entry is even more interesting as it implies that in some way Pokemon morph or change in order to try and restore the natural order of things if humans somehow change that. It's actually something that seems to be consistent across all regional variants

Trainer: crying Hatterne: salps him "stop being sad" Trainer: "Good job hatter---" Hatterne: Slaps him "stop being happy"

I feel like Drapion's entry about being afraid of Hippowdon makes even more sense when you consider that, as a Poison/Dark type, it's only weak to Ground.
  • @julianheng1298
Mikey: "You can't cut liquid" Sawk: "Ok then, PokeMoses. Split the sea apart like I heard you do in the stories."
  • @thejadeninja
Trainer: stubs toe and starts cussing out everything around them Hattrem:*punches trainer with full force*
  • Me: hatches a Golett from an egg Golett: “I must execute my orders from my master that died thousands of years ago.” Me: “You literally just hatched from that egg.”
  • Corvisquire’s dex entry about the tools is a reference to the intelligence of real crows! Also Snover’s berries were seen in an episode of the Sinnoh anime!
  • @Letmeseethat
Dusknoir : sees an enemy Sobble. Also Dusknoir : eats the sobble and spits it’s dead body out.
  • Fun fact: Corvisquire’s Dex entry references real life crows, which are smart enough to make and use tools!

I always liked Galarian Meowth as it referenced the relationship between Vikings and Cats. Vikings would use cats to help with rodent infestation on seafaring journeys and they played an important part in their religion as the Goddess, Freyja who was the goddess of love, fertility, and battle was pulled around in a chariot by two large cats.
  • My guess to the farfected is because the leek is tied to its fighting spirit. It probably takes a bite after battle/training and the leek grows back due to its energy. When it’s fighting spirit has wilted after a lifetime of battle, the blade will have also wilted. Thus bitting it won’t let grow back but I doubt it would eat a dying/dead leek. Like a rusty sword, it probably lays it to rest, with the sword going back into the earth. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust…
