In this one I'm adapting a cheap vintage lens to my Sony a7iv, doing some photography with it, and hopefully coming to a conclusion on wether vintage lenses are actually worth it for photography in the modern day. I go through how to use a vintage lens of any make with any camera, and talk about the pros and cons. The lens in question I'm using in this video is the Cosina 28mm f3.8 for Pentax. I was able to mount it to my Sony a7iv with the K&F Concept Pentax K to Sony E Adapter.

I bought this very lens just this week, I've had it for two or three days and I haven't yet taken it for a spin. It was in a decent state though I did decide to service it and relubricate the helicoid. Mine cost half as much as yours. 35 quid is a bit steep for this lens. Still, if you're happy using it, then it's a bargain! And, Cosina is the company name. They still make lenses, e.g. the modern Voigtlanders.

You can build a full set of vintage lenses very cheap and even if you change system you ll just need to buy a new adapter. Than buy AF lenses for the focal lengths you use the most. Also manual photography emulates the most important aspect of film photography, being more intentional and slowing down. Most vintage lenses also give a unique look.
  • Smashing stuff as usual. This is something I've been meaning to look into, especially as my chosen system is Fuji. There's so many available and as you say, offer character an optically perfect lens just doesn't. Yet another cracking location too, lovely images mate!

I got one in Oxfam for a fiver today - thanks for the review, looks like a decent lens!
  • I always try and find a helicoid adapter. It broadens the lens' uses. A lot of vintage glass have poor close focus.
  • More food for thought! Most excellent! I love the images you came up with in this video. Thanks for sharing

Wonder who owns that little mining house - would be a dream to renovate that!
