When this song hit NYC in 1982, I was 12 years old. It was my favorite song along with Junior's, MaMa used to say. I begged my Mother to buy me the record so I could listen to it whenever I wanted to. She took me to Sam Goody and bought me the '45 single. I miss those days. I miss the 80's!

The thing I ADORE about Stranger Things is that it introduces newer generations like me to 80s hits like this one and it always manages to be the one song I listen to for months on end and never get bored of it

A little fun fact that I’m sharing as a Jamaican person: A “Dutchie” in Jamaican culture is slang for a Dutch pot, “pass the dutchie (Dutch pot) to the left hand side” is about sharing food with your fellow neighbor when times get tough<33 Edit : I would really appreciate that if you are going to comment “ no it’s about weed😡 “ don’t . It is exhausting to have to explain my culture and assess the stereotypes that have been laid for my people . Not all Jamaican people smoke weed . Smoking weed is illegal in Jamaica . If your associating a dutchie [[ which is a hand welded metal pot that is sold on the streets of Jamaica ]] with Dutch master rolls , let me tell you that is not it . Dutch master rolls are an American thing . We use RAW . If you want a song that says “ smoke weed and pass it “ listen to “ pass the kutchie “ . This song is about food . As I’ve stated before , NOT ALL JAMAICAN PEOPLE SMOKE WEED . We have other hobbies , we pride ourselves in our music , art , our education , and our beliefs . Please listen to people when they tell you about a culture you are not apart of . most of the people in the comments that are telling me otherwise , are white . If you don’t know enough about that culture / aren’t apart of that culture you don’t get to speak about that culture . You can comment about it , praise or criticize it , but you as a white person don’t get to tell me what I do , and do not believe in my culture that I have been apart of since I was born . TLDR ; don’t make assumption on what a culture believes , if you yourself are not part of that culture .
  • Who's listening to this in June 2024??? It's a timeless classic.

As a Jamaican person; this makes me so so happy seeing others enjoying it :)) for anyone who doesn’t know, dutchie is a dish in Jamaica, often shared with friends or family . this song represents sharing food with others out of kindness— which is what we want to spread in Jamaica 🇯🇲.
  • I never stopped loving this song after hearing it in the live action scooby doo movie, I’m glad it’s getting another wave of popularity
