Hoping to take a more personal deep dive in today's episode to explore 5 lessons learned from being out of work unemployed for 1 year, especially with the great resignation, quiet quitting, and movements now happening around us.

Stay safe, wherever you are, whether in the US, California to NYC, or internationally outside the country, and may we hopefully recover soon from this health pandemic we're all in right now together!!!

Kevinā€™s Journal was created by mixing, combining, and fusing together my passion for entertainment, service work, and journaling, to share all the thoughts and quotes Iā€™ve collected over the years!!

    1. Loyalty withing a company-there is none 2. Favoritism- It's who you know, not what you know 3. Diversify your income-don't depend on one gig 4. Unemployment has a negative impact on you-not finding a job sucks, keep looking 5. Acceptance that we do not control the situation for being unemployed YOURWELCOME
  • I learned when i went into the Army, literally broke my body and gave thrm everything and they kicked me out for being injured with nothing. I learned about loyal and many organizations lack of it.

I was laid off twice in my life. Living on social security and pensions and never having to worry about getting laid off again is pretty nice.

The next morning you wake up and say to yourself: "Gosh, i just realized, *I'm now free*!"

I can relate because I was laid off for 2 years and only got 6 months of unemployment after 30 years of continuous work for the same company. Being older is even harder to find another job, especially when your 50+. The only thing that saved our family was having a large emergency fund ($150K). We lived off that until I was back working. We didn't go into further debt or miss a payment own our bills. We are still working to resave the money we spent today. It's going to take awhile but we will get there again.

Unemployment is a gift. Spending most of my life unemployed gives me time to work on my land and do stuff I want to do. I work a few months of the year total and that's all I want to work. I've learned high value skills that pay more than I need and are always necessary. Unemployment is what I work towards. Not for a weekend, for a month or more. Reframe your thoughts, reskill yourselves and spend more time enjoying life instead of slaving so your bosses can enjoy their lives. Jussayin.

I did everything right. Earned three degrees, studied hard, excelled in my internships, and then the job market beat me down. My first salaried position with benefits gave me no raise for 2 years and paid me less than new hires, then they laid me off after the company went under. I thought it would be a curse to settle for a part time position with no benefits, but I took the opportunity to take a second part time job on the side and requested fair hourly pay. I have now doubled my income and easily pay for market insurance and max out my retirement every year as well as support my two kids and their stay at home mom. This is a brutal market and an unfair society, but you can find opportunities if you are resilient, active, and always looking for a good deal.

The problem is TOO many executives aren't looking to innovate or build a company for the long haul and keep growing it. They treat it like a stock. Bang out profits, get their bonus and then when the thing lawn darts get a juicy payout.

Working for oneself is not unemployment. My writing, studies, gardening are critical to my well-being. I love to be busy and efficient. I am a loyal team worker. This keeps me off the "expendable" list. Never was a brown noser but my reliability and popularity protected me from click compliance. Favoritism is not avoidable. Nepotism, intimate liaisons and shared boss booze/drug comrades can be threatening to security. Always be emotionally prepared to start over. Take or accept any work that keeps the bills paid. This free time can be a blessing. Work on yourself. Good content and advice in your vid. Blessings in a world that is both beautiful and bleak. Go for a walk, bike ride and smile. Breathe. Sing. Keep the faith and be useful. Be a good friend and companion. āœļø

Hi Kevin, thank you for this video. I actually found your channel when I lost my corporate job about 4 years ago. This month I resigned from another office job to make a career pivot. It is so much nicer when it's your decision to leave! Thanks again for all the tips and advice.
  • We are not loyal in our community anymore. Unless we live in a rare few places. Jobs are just that. Careers are now just jobs. Quality companies are short lived. Business models cater to profits and ephemeral short lived concepts. Great post.

I was lucky during covid. I worked for Estes trucking company as a dock worker/forklift operator. The managers had a speech and said IF we are out of work than we will have more problems than being un employed because this country would be shut down. Because we were the 5th largest trucking company in the country
  • @paul_domici
Sad but true buddy! It's not how good you are. It's like high school! If you're in with the popular kids or one of the bosses favorites your good! If not you're out and might as well start looking for another job! You'll never get promoted! That's just life!
  • @TippyPuddles
One thing everyone needs to get through their head. You are just a number to a company. You are expendable and easily replaced. No matter how much they say you are appreciated and valued, it's a lie. YOU ARE A NUMBER! The larger the company, they less they care about you.
  • @DIY-AutoMech
Thank you for sharing your story. I've been down that road before during my past 23 years of my career life. It's true about "Favoritism" in the corporate world. Although, companies say there's no discrimination based on age/sex/race/gender/etc. Personally, I think it's just a smoke screen in human society. It's also true about loyalty amongst Employers & Employees that would never exist in big corporate companies. As you said, in society all big companies are capitalist. Happy to see that you are now employed.
