The big tech and AI are running out of water. In the not so distant future, they will fight over scarce water sources to fund their expansion and business.

For decades, experts have been warning us that we are running out of available fresh water. Some even suggested that a few major conflicts in recent history may have been spurred up by water scarcity.

Today big tech’s thirst for this most precious resource is growing unquenchable pushing additional pressure on the already cracking camel’s back. It may seem unlikely. And if you’ve never heard this before, it’s intentional. It’s because the big tech has kept it a secret.

Keep swinging, homie. Tiny chops bring down the tree.
  • @iRunKids
old school conspiracy theory people told me when I was a kid (decades ago) that whoever controls the water will own the world
  • I can't believe I have lived long enough to see the day where Fremen are mentioned on a casual basis when water scarcity is the topic. The future is now indeed.

I am part of the water industry, and waste water is an incredibly underappreciated sect of the industry. You mentioned billionaires trying to control and gain water rights in order to privatize the industry. What does every person need? Water. What can you charge the hell out of if you control it? Water, Gas, Electricity, Healthcare. They aren't just doing it for convenience sake, they want a monopoly. Anyway LA found out they had a water shortage problem and mostly fixed it by having a "gray water line" and a "potable water line" this dropped demand on potable water immensely. Good project to look into for multiple states.

The reason people want AI search is because Google has made search shit on purpose. Enshittification etc.

I have been thinking about big techvs water consumption and it was so hard to find legit information. So many companies tried finding better solutions or starting initiatives against this problem and were let down by government supporting big tech. Thanks for your precious work!

We have to ask the AI how to switch to salt water instead.
  • @Ayyfren
It's terrifying to think about the amount of bots and AI comments under those videos trying to obfuscate genuine discussion. Who the fuck does that and why
  • To think that if they just slowed their pace, they wouldn't even need fans for cooling, let alone liquid cooling... Look up what early CPU heatsinks looked like - they just passively cooled With our smaller transistors, passive cooling is even more viable But it doesn't make line go up so it's no good
  • The Middle East has a unique water purification technique using salt. It's still salty, but I got some in Bahrain, and it is still hydrating. Despite having a well on my property, I still use charcoal Brita (Pur also works) filters before I drink it or use it for coffee. The more you examine how our electric power grid and data centers work, the more you realize how postmodern society is built on a house of cards. Start collecting books.

It takes a hell of a lot more power to evaporate that much water.

I'm reminded of why China decided to build their main datacenter city in Guilin, in the middle of a rainforest.

Take a shot every time he mentions water. Just make sure you're not taking shots of ..... water
  • @GeorgeGeorgeOnly
Even England (UK) could suffer water shortages as a result of sewage polution.

Intelligence explosion is an ill-justified hypothetical. How a superintelligence comes to threaten life on earth, even if it has poorly specified goals is never described except by "super-persuasiveness" (another poorly justified hypothetical). I wouldn't say there are no risks to what an AI with badly specified goals can do, but have you noticed that discourse around algorithmic bias and questions about mass surveillance, or as you allude to concerns about resource sustainability and literal wars, have been essentially drowned out by "superintelligence destroy the world". The thing about this concern is it can't be rectified by regulation restricting the most powerful players in the sector, because we don't know how to solve it, only by R&D funding, and only by making sure the use of cutting edge models are restricted to only approved parties. Somehow a highly speculative sci fi fear got transformed into both a means to bury issues the public might actually want to regulate on, and an excuse for both unrestricted growth and legalized monopolization of the technology. Big tech is playing us.
