Poor babies, honestly the pure breeding of them needs banned

Ive been intubated while awake, it is gid awful. These dogs should NOT be legal to keep breeding. Why does anyone think this is cute?!

There’s actually some breeders out there working to reverse the damage done to these breeds. God bless them
  • As someone who used to have asthma, not being able to breathe is such a traumatizing feeling. I can't imagine how painful it must be to perpetually struggle to breathe
  • I’m a dog walker and I walk two pugs every week. One of them has severe breathing issues and constantly sounds like he’s been smoking for 30 years with a hacking cough that comes and goes. I feel so bad for him and make sure I go slow for him in case he needs a break, he’s a happy guy but I know he must be so uncomfortable all the time due to his issues..

Any time I wake up a bulldog or pug I give them a few breaths before I pull the tube when every other animal has it pulled out immediately. They really do prefer it. It makes me so sad 😣
  • I recently saw a post online about a breeder that is breeding pugs to have longer snout so they can actually breathe better

So so glad there are breeders who are working to undo these traits from pugs and bulldogs. Please support them!

We rescued a senior (14 yrs old) pug several years ago and got to love her for almost 2 incredible years. We recently rescued a pug puppy someone had dumped because of her health problems. She is an amazing little girl and we adore her, but she struggles. As long as she is happy and keeps wanting to fight, we will be there giving her every possible chance. But yes, these need to be either banned or responsibly bred to have longer snouts and thus better breathing results.

I’m a pug mom but I rescue senior pugs. The old babies need love too.

This is so fucking sad. My dad died while intubated last year after his lungs stopped working, meanwhile this baby doesn't even mind the painful tube because he can finally breathe normal!😭 I've always known pugs had breathing issues, but this really put it in another light for me :(

Sure they look cute and I'm sure they have great personalities, and there's no harm in adopting a surrendered pug, but suffering isn't cute and it's selfish to get them from a breeder.

Thank you, thank you for bringing this up. Most people look at their cuteness and not the fact they are doomed to a life struggling to breathe .
  • I always feel so bad for them. I once did a research project on them, and it was terrible... I cried a few times while writing the paper

"I have a pug it's perfectly healthy!" Okay and? Your dog is a outlier. The rest of the damn breeds half dying the moment it born.
  • The way I've always thought of pugs and bulldogs is, while they're adorable, it's sad that they exist. If they were born as something else, life would be so much easier for these little babies.
  • Something I’m very thankful of is that my pug came out of the litter described as “slightly deformed” by the seller. Her snout is longer and not as scrunched into her face which the vets say has helped her maintain much easier breathing than other pugs. I honestly couldn’t tell you the science or fact behind it all, but I am thankful that she does live a far more comfortable life than others :)

A human version of a pug would look like someone from the hills have eyes
