Kim and Ron are in my opinion one of the best examples, if not the best, of "friends to lovers" done right. Many other series have failed really badly trying to do something like this.
The creators said that Kim and Ron "are together forever" and you can see that in season 4. They managed to get through some tough times thanks to their previous friendship that could have ended a lot of other couples, especially at that early stage. So yes, I agree, Kim and Ron are together forever.
Although the ending is not bad, the other ending, the one that Disney did not allow them to do, seemed better to me. In that ending Kim and Ron apparently go to different college, but in reality Ron "had taken the long road" (Destiny) and they meet again at the same college.
That ending has everything this ending had and also clarifies that they end up at the same college.
Later, it was clarified that Kim and Ron go to the same college in this ending as well.
The reason why Disney didn't let them do the other ending is that they believed that college was too far away from the audience that the series is aimed at.
