This is an amazingly produced documentary covering an amazing breadth of history. A topic I've long be interested in is the very early maritime migrations of polynesians and melanesians. It's amazing to think of them navigating oceans in dugouts to remote islands. As well as the voyages of the great Zheng He and the other remarkable seafaring accomplishments this is a great documentary.

Man has conquered the ocean? Last I heard, the ocean still has the upper hand.

Imagining a 2000 mile journey in a double canoe, headed to an unknown island dotting a vast ocean. Now we do too much of our exploring in cyberspace. Thanks for uploading these vintage videos. I see that Alan Ziegler has been dead twenty years. RIP.

Somehow I was dreaming about maritime history then I woke up to this. It’s very good I will say.

My father (a naval architect & marine engineer) and I saw this canoe (Hokulea) when it visited the Charleston SC harbor on a world trip of some kind. Fascinating piece of engineering.

A very good Nautical documentary some very interesting information. The size of the old Chinese ships seems huge to other vessels of the same age.
