'87 All Star Game Intensity vs. 2024. The difference will shock you.

Published 2024-03-03
I recently watched the 2024 NBA All Star Game highlights and was not surprised by the long standing trend of playing no defense. I didn't think much about this until I watched the 87 All Star Game and was shocked at the difference in effort, intensity, and level of competition.

Thanks. I like your approach and sense of humor in this video. What is your explanation of this shift? My hypothesis is that: camaraderie that came with internet, and instant acces to other players leading to playing together when the season is over. I am sure there are other factors. I think J.J. Redick mentioned that ASW is mainly business event so they even have no chance of thinking about basketball that day.

wow! the difference is unreal! im 19 and have grown up with the likes of KD, Bron, Steph etc but I often find myself watching old playoff games of Isiah Thomas and the bad boys, Bird and the 86 celtics and theres just something about it, diving for the ball, hard fouls, no easy buckets, its a good watch! this new stuff is no good for the future of the game! great vid btw

Great vid. I don’t think we’ll see all star games be exciting like they were before :(

Henceforth, I'm calling this modern ASG stuff "Make a Wish defense."
  • this is also what is frustrating : as much talented as these players are today they don't strive to test themselves out in a such elite setting, you're playing with and against the best of the best, it should be a travesty to have by your side a Durant, a LeBron or Steph Curry (how many times does that happen ???) and not to be able to say : and we've layed it all out on the court that day

Spoiled, overpaid and overprivileged. This is what happens.
