You all seemed to really enjoy my dive into the lore of the Rainforest Cafe, so I figured it was time to return to the real life FNAF that is Chuck E Cheese. I want to know the story behind the mascot. No, not the history of the restaurant. The story of the animatronics made to entertain us. Theorists, this story is TRAGIC!

I still can’t believe the fact that they seriously gave an animatronic rat an orphanage backstory.
  • I like how MatPat can look at a completely normal thing and go: But what if there’s LOOOOOOOOOORE?!?!
  • @Jo_shhh
After all the years of FNaF this feels just like it was written by Scott himself 💀
  • @Kiaanisthebest
At this point I am convinced MatPat can find lore in even a random rock outside his house
  • I absolutely love the idea that a business that is starting to go out of business would make a lore explanation for when they close.
  • I’ve always wondered how it was possible that someone sat down and thought: “You know what small children would absolutely love??? A six foot tall robotic rat!”

1:50 hold up, wasn't this one of the notes in Security Breach? Edit: Yep, just checked the wiki, here it is: "CUSTOMER COMPLAINT - The pizza we ordered was weird. Some pieces were different sizes or didn't fit together. One slice even had different toppings. Did you recycle the old pizza from the trash? I am never coming back here unless I am given some sort of major discount. - Angry Mom" Edit #2: Please stop saying "the fnaf thing was a reference to this irl incident" I KNOW THAT
  • There was a girl in my kindergarten class named Maria who LOVED cats. Every Wednesday, she would be excused and when I say every, I mean it. Every Wednesday, she would go to Chuck E Cheese. When we shared about our day in the morning, all she shared about was that she went to Chuck E Cheese. She missed SO much school just because of that hellhole.
  • I love how seriously MatPat takes the lore of a pizza restaurant known for hosting 5 year olds’ birthday parties.

"Because he was an orphan, he was constantly struck by the feeling that something in his life was missing, like parents." -MatPat

I've never seen a Chuck E Cheese in real life and it looks terrifying.

great video! matpat included a lot of details that i rarely see talked about, however he did get a few details wrong. Chucks name was originally ricky rat, and it was actually Bushnells friend who bought the original costume, and a friend who told him having rat in the name was a bad idea. Bushnell also wasn’t a huge disney fan, but his daughter was. he used to work for disney parks and used their scrapped idea for an animatronic eat-in as a basis for Check E Cheese. as well as him wanting to make more money off of Atari games, as the versions of in-home games that existed at the time looked weird, and no one really wanted them. other than those small details (and a few more that didn’t matter much,) a great covering of Chucks history and story!
  • The arcade floor plan at my local Chuck E. Cheese was too small to fit a stage nearby, so the animatronics were in this separate room where it was dark until you chose a song using a little screen at the base of the stage with a little rolly ball. It was honestly quite terrifying.

Everyday I gain more information and proof that Matpat can really find lore in anything.
  • I just watch the concept unification for changing the animatronics’ cosmetics to Chuck E Cheese characters and it is sort of creepy, but the jazz in the background is comforting. Maybe that’s just me. It’s definitely the inspiration for that parts and repairs video by battington… or the inspiration for the video that battington’s one was based off.
  • Matt is done with FNAF, he's had his fun, he's had his pratice. He is ready to bring his horror into the real world. G E T. R E A D Y

I’m a former employee, and I was employed in 2020. I don’t know what happened, but after isolation, our district had some of the best financial success we’d had, according to a one-off comment from my manager. Don’t worry, Chuck’s won’t be going away anytime soon. The animatronics are being removed one location at a time, though, and being replaced by a dance floor, if those plans are still in place. The mascot costume isn’t being phased out, either, much to employees’ despise. The shows are just getting shorter and shorter to accommodate how laborious the shows are. We all learn Chuck’s backstory during training. Whether or not we actually make an effort to remember it is up to the individual. I always did, because I’m a lore-conscious cast member.
  • The whole plot of Chucky (aka Charles Entertainment Cheese) being a rat orphan and doesn't know when his birthday is and so he gives bday parties to kids makes a lot of sense actually.
  • @marshallt7752
I knew the backstory before I watched this video. Here is what I know "Chuck E. Cheese is an orphan who didn't know his birthday. He found a restraint that served great pizza. The cook tried to murder Chuck, Chuck sang and was made a star." THANK GOD this video did not give me nightmares! Love your videos Matpat!!!!!!
