The Rohonc Codex is a mysterious medieval book written in an unknown language containing bizarre depictions of famous Christian iconography. In strangeness, it is perhaps only second to the famous and still undeciphered Voynich Manuscript. No one knows where the Rohonc Codex came from or what it truly contains. Can we finally solve this enigmatic text?

Id like to think this is how future scholars are going to analyzing Diary of a Whimpy Kid thousands of years from now
  • It's amazing how school (atleast in the US) makes history so boring I would fall asleep. But 15 years later I'm fascinated by it thanks to channels like this and others. I've heard that some teachers are showing kids this type of stuff now and I think that's awesome. History is not boring!
  • I'm Hungarian, but this is the first time I ever heard about this codex. Thank you to bring my attention to this.
  • Wow, I thought I was pretty well versed in obscure, mysterious, indecipherable old books but this was new to me! Thank you for always bringing fascinating subjects to us!!
  • Thank you Mr Mythos! As a Hungarian born in Transylvania I have to admit that you surprised me! I have never heard of Sámuel Literaty Nemes or of the Battyány's Rohonc Codex. I am as courious as Körösi-Csoma was to find out more about our roots. Keep up the precious work!

Prayer books are pretty esoteric when you think about it. Really not much different than a grimoire.

There may have been a lost "cult" in Hungary we may not know about and only praticed christianity and wrote in a secret code.Other than that it's hard to say.

I was inactive for a long time...gonna binge watch all the missed videos...keep going mate. ROAD TO 100K
  • I remember watching something with a Hungarian linguist who visited Australia and could partially recognize some aboriginal words . Then went on to say it could be a part of the tartarian language.
  • When you try to convert others to your faith, the best way to do it is via changing your depiction art to that of the people you’re trying to convert. Same as the text, you would try to revert it to what they are able to read. Most holy men that traveled the world did this. You can see an example of this in China where they have a copy of the Bible that has art work using Chinese style art. Dramatically looks strange at first glance but it makes sense when you understand famous scenes from the Bible. But idk. There is many things we don’t know about when it comes to history.
  • Its important to remember that from the medieval period up to the renaissance, Christian Relics were extremely valuable. There were industries dedicated to producing them.

This reminds me of a certain book that was popular where I come from, called "Lexicon Cosri". It is historical fiction, but the author took inspiration from historical documents, since he was a university professor. It is a sort of chronicle documenting the three versions (Christian, Jewish and Islamic) of what happened to the lost Khazars. If you guys enjoyed this video, the book might be a nice read :)

We all live in a global “Truman Show.” True story.
  • This reminds me of my personal journaling… Occasionally I draw, often to cover up mistakes and screw ups. But mostly as I please. I think that’s what we have here, someone’s journal. Rough accounts of happenings & culture of the author.

The Academics - "800 symbols would beyond the capacity of human memory..." Tell that to a billion Chinese.

If I don't wake up I'll forsure be rewatching this very intriguing subject.

A new mr. Mythos video? What a lovely sight to wake up to! The YouTube gods have blessed me.
  • GN and EN are twins. Either one is the writer or illustrator. You mentioned "mirroring" which symbolizes the number 2, double and gemini. That I believe could help trace and narrow down the author and illustrator of this book. Thank you.
