Kylo Ren was not actually a Sith. He was a part of another Dark Side faction called the Knights of Ren.

Contradictory to how Anakin Skywalker never received the rank of Master. Kylo Ren his grandson never received the rank of Darth.

My understanding was that he was part of the Knights of Ren, which was a different dark side sect.

He wasn't a sith to begin with he may have trained in the dark side but there is more to the sith doctrine than being a dark sider and he wasn't trained in the deeper and more intricate parts of there dark side of the force

We also know he never truly embraced the darkside cuz he lacked the yellow eyes of someone truly devoted to the darkside of the force, so even if palp was the one in place if snoke I doubt he would have given Ben the title of Darth

It's actually because the writers of the Star Wars sequels didn't know enough about the saga to follow through with that much nuance and also the whole trilogy is a mess with no coherent story line
