The Transformers franchise is absolutely iconic. The latest installment, Rise of the Beasts, looks to be just as explosive, despite the franchise's creator, director Michael Bay not being in the driver's seat for this one.

So let’s go over everything you need to know before seeing Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. And whether or not this is a true prequel to the franchise we know– or the start of a brand new timeline.

As we said earlier, Bay's Transformers timeline starts [clip: ”before time began” ] with the All Spark.

Doug: The All Spark?

Essentially it’s a magic space cube that can create life out of inorganic material.[clip] It's the source for all “non-biological life” in the transformer’s universe.[clip]

Around 45 billion BC, a giant planet-sized Transformer named Unicron goes dormant in our solar system. [still] Life begins to form on its surface and eventually Unicron becomes planet Earth. [clip]

Flash-forward to 65 million BC, and a group of aliens known as "The Creators" [clip] visit Earth and other planets, covering them with seeds of "Transformium" that can convert ORGANIC life into Transformers.[clip]

Doug: Wait Transformium? Really? That sounds just as made up as “Unobtainium”

Actually, Doug, Unobtanium is a real engineering term. It’s something that, in theory, could solve any problem you’re having.

Doug: “Oh! So like “ we could travel to Mars in a day if we had some Unobtanium”

Exactly - [clip] Transformium however is completely made up - but more importantly, it’s the material used to create Transformers - AKA Cybertronians. (Sigh-ber-tro-knee-uns)

Doug: Wait, I thought that was the All Spark?

Fair - it's confusing. The All Spark is what gives Transformers life. It activates them. If the Transformers are Frankenstein’s monster, then the All Spark is the thunderstorm and Transformium is… the dead body parts used to make him [Clip]

The Transformium created the Dinobots, and as cool as they are they basically remain dormant until they’re needed in the fourth film.[clip]

Doug: Oh, we're already at the fourth film! Neat, we’re moving by quickly.

Actually, Doug, we’re not even at the first film.

Doug: WHAT?

Yea, but these movies are like 50% backstory anyways, so by the time we do get to the first film, we’ll technically be halfway through them all

Doug: Oh - okay then carry on…

Meanwhile, Cybertron is created and a vibrant society of Cybertronians begins to prosper.[clip]

Doug: Wait, who’s Cybertron?

Not a “who” but rather a “where” - more specifically its the homeworld of the Transformers, and the battleground that forever cements the Autobots and Decepticons as immortal enemies.[clip]

Doug: Autobots? Decepticons?

There are two warring factions of the Cybertronian race. There are more factions, such as the Dinobots, Terracons, Predicons, and Maximals, [stils] - but all you really need to know is Autobots = good, Decepticons = bad

  • @Decaposaurus
The most unrealistic part of the movies was that the US Govt. cared about Chicago being destroyed.
  • @writingref
The fact your head didn’t explode trying to explain all of that is amazing
  • @newfacepaula
give me Megan Fox and the weird two ghetto Autobots and I'm set to watch the movie

I cant wait to see Snake eyes driving Bumblebee, I literally thought it was sector 7 but I was so wrong.
  • @YODAddyLIVE
Transformers is the literal "Brains off summer blockbuster". It doesn't make any sense and it doesn't have to. It's just meant to be a fun watch and for anyone to be able to do a recap is a true art.
  • @nostalgicisaac4657
I watched all the movies, and it's just now that i realise they actually have a continuous connected story
  • @repowers2
In which Ryan puts a lot of thought into making the Bay movies have a cohesive timeline -- way more thought than the writers themselves ever did.
  • @logansummer2788
Ryan is a guru at breakdown videos. This is the best breakdown at this confusing franchise.

Tbh I’ve never really cared about the timeline and all the confusion of these movies and still don’t, I just love seeing giant robots that transform into sick cars fighting each other, the story has never really mattered lol
  • @TommyTallNose
I really felt like the 2007 movie was WAY TOO underrated.
