I love how all the people who travel there are like "oh it's a spiritual journey and Yoga and bean sprouts and my inner child" and the locals are like " I can't wait to surf really big waves".
  • Went surfing for a whole week, thought I could handle the big waves and went really far out. The wave was like 7 feet (tiny but it was the fifth day of surfing in my entire life). Fell of my surfboard and the wave rolled me around underwater, I was like a little doll completely at the behest of nature. In that moment for the first time in my life I truly thought I was going to die, canโ€™t image what it feels like to fall Into one of those whoppers.

I am not a surfer never surfed but I am fascinated by the massive magnitude and power of the seas and the bravery it takes to essentially race them

Death defying drops, wow! The odd thing about surfers is that they have huge balls but are very humble because they face the power of nature every day. The ocean can be very menacing and break you in half like a twig anytime. The water can turn ice cold with one current going through. There are jagged rocks, undertows, rip tides, wave smashes that churn you into pulp, sand bars that can break your fingers and bones, and more. You never know what you get that day in the ocean. So you remain humble. But it takes a special kind of courage to the point of foolhardiness to tackle those waves, and a lot of strength and experience and split second decisions. A rare breed are surfers.

Seeing the volume of water in large waves in the sea is so terrifying yet you canโ€™t help but watch in awe.
  • Can you imagine the sound of that monster breaking behind you? I wish they could capture that
  • Man just hears about the tsunami coming to wipe out the city and he casually grabs his surfboard.

The mother of Antonio is so sweet. His father and him are cautious but excited to be in the water and sheโ€™s there on shore like โ€œI pray, I pray a lot.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚ Bless her.

I'm from Portugal and even if you are not into surfing, Nazarรฉ is a very cool town to visit and the nearby areas too, sรฃo Martinho do Porto has a huge beach bay and there is no overcrowding at all

I never realized that a lot of these guys are spiritually connected to their craft. Really cool. I love hearing philosophies behind dangerous sports. Listening to Alex Honnold talk about free soloing is also a trip.
  • @My_Two_Cents
Surfing has to be the most toughest and dangerous sport in the entire world. Just a human trying to strike a delicate balance with nature. No two waves are ever the same. Exhilarating to watchโ€”I can only imagine what it's actually like to surf massive big waves. Respect to all surfers in the worldโ€”amateur and professional.

Portuguese people are some of the kindest you can meet! Big love from UK
  • I could sit there and just watch those waves all day long. Breathtaking, so amazing.
  • I want some raw footage of Nazare. I appreciate the editing they've done but im just waiting for someone to upload some untouched gopro/drone footage with the natural sound to give you a real idea of what its like out there.
  • @ynech
Great video. Huge waves. That's very beautiful. Great surfing.
  • I know this might be obvious to many, but it gives me great relief to think that even the greatest of athletes on the sea, are as anxious and stupefied as a layman !! It's the courage to overcome that, differentiates them !! And it is easier said than done โœŒ๏ธ

I used to surf in Cape Town growing up there and biggest I've ridden was twelve feet. Watching these waves give me goose bumps :) They are so big and powerful.
