  • Paul Daniels was the best, not just that he made these amazing illusions but that he did it again and again on TV and he made it funny and captivating. The supreme showman who charmed and baffled his audience and had them always coming back for more. Rest In Peace Paul, you'll never be forgotten.

The fact that the props are examined by members of the public makes it much more impressive. A well done trick

I had this recorded off the TV and I used to watch this episode often, I remember it so well!! This and the Hawaiian guy who makes fire with a coconut I think, two moments I have very strong memories of!!

I love watching these clips, and trying to guess what kind of costume Debbie is going to be wearing - and I am invariably completely wrong! I was expecting something circus-themed like the blokes at the back, but then she comes on in a tribute to the Green Goddess.

Great trick, and Debbie looks fabulous!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. Plants make it less stressful for Paul and Debbie, but it's almost as easy to use audience members who don't really know where to look. The collapsible cage is why they needed the sheet metal box for Paul and Debbie to stand on.
  • If u notice at 7:42 there's a triangle shape on top of the box there's definitely a trap door there's more time than you think as soon as he puts down the front curtain the left assistant goes to the back of the box at 7:50 he is helping with the trap door

Wow, at the very end when the guys are pulling the cover off and as Deb' goes ontop, you can quickly see Pauls' head fixing his left hand and his head moving to fix the right hand chain. I just wonder how they switched. lol

At 6:31 it seems something is wrong with the shadows. They aren't seen on the floor under the cage yet we see them if they come from the front side but not on the backside :).

Paul was one of my growing up heroes. Always entertaining and had the beautiful Debbie as his assistant. I always wish I'd have had the chance to meet him or even go to a live show but wasn't to be. A true entertainer of the highest quality. Loved all his TV shows and Debbie is still lush to this day

The triangle shape you see is the shadow from the left and right side of the curtains. The triangle that you see is just the light that is able to come through. Im sure there is a trap door, but I don't think its on the top of the box

Yep, the pendragons did do a trick like this, .. same concept, completely different setup etc. great trick thou

It's all about the showmanship. The logistics haven't changed in years. False handcuffs, hidden compartments, concealed trapdoors and hinges. The most vital ingredient are 'volunteers' who are in on it. It's the only way illusions like this work. But even if they were honest volunteers, it's check the bars, not check the frame. Check the panels, but don't look for hidden hinges. Check the bag, while you're standing on the velcroed seam. Also, did anyone ask Debbie if she had a key on her?
