The Legion 9i makes all Laptops look Pathetic

The Legion 9i Gen 8 feels like a gaming laptop from the future. It has completely unique features like an integrated liquid cooler, replaceable keycaps and switches and high end specs with some of the lowest temperatures we've seen. This is meant to be the best Legion laptop in their lineup, a flagship that showcases what's possible in 2023. And because of that, it can make all other 2023 gaming laptops feel pretty pathetic.

** Our unit contained a pre-production battery configuration so battery life couldn't be tested. **

I really love what these manufacturers are doing with the tech.... just wish it didn't cost as much as a used car...

Just bought one with 64GB RAM, 4090, and 2TB. BTW, don't forget to speak to a sales rep (you can chat on the website) and inquire about a discount. I asked and said "I'd be dumb not to ask" and they replied, asking if I'm a teacher, military, student, or medical person. I said that, unfortuantely, I'm just a retired bedridden engineer -- and they still gave me almost a $300 discount on a $5,000 USD bill. I mean, it was still like a 6% discount or something and you can't complain about that just for two minutes of time!
  • The Lenovo 9i is one of the most unique looking computer's I've seen in a while, Kudos to the Design Team!

Dang. Those temps at that power level, boost freq and noise level is amazing. Incredible accomplishment.

I like the gestures of including 2 power bricks, with one being more compact. My main laptop has been a legion i7 y740 for years but i have been reluctant to bring it to classes or anywhere in fact that i dont absolutely need it for because of the power brick. And i could never bring myself to pay out nearly $200 for the slimmer charger.

    I bought a Legion Pro 5i 16IRX8 in May 2023 for 1699USD. 13900HX, 32GB, 4070, 240HZ 16" IPS for $1699. Currently on sale for 1599USD. Pretty good laptop for work and games.

As impressive as this is, I see how Lenovo is not allowing any comparisons benchmark wise to the Legion 7i Pro with the same GPU. I imagine it's probably within a couple of percentage points and this laptop is $1000+ more.

My last laptop was Lenovo and I remember the speakers were very good, loud and clear with pretty decent bass.

I was able to get the Legion 9i Gen 8 priced out with Windows 11 Pro, the 4090, and 64GB of DDR5 at $3345 with multiple discounts. Damn! And the display is insane and the reason why I chose the 9i over the 7i. The 7i doesn't have an option for the miniLED display. So tempted to pull the trigger on this beast! I already have the Asus Scar 16 with 4080 and only 32GB DDR5, but it has the 2560 x 1600 miniLED HDR1000 display @ 240Hz. It's a great gaming laptop and I only paid $2800 for it, so may give it to my son if I get the 9i. Decisions decisions!

Great showcase for this laptop! and thank you for including real numbers on different games and applications, does help a lot. A beast! cheers!

Subbed because THAT was a Master Class in how to review a laptop.
  • @Mareks_Riekstins
i like how lenovo started this design with y530 model and keeps this design alive and just tweaks it. looks premium

As a long time legion user, these are excitingggg. I just hope they're easier to open LMAOO

Awesome review. Thanks for adding the detail on the palm rest. I wish the palm rest was bit bigger to place my palm.
  • @Rs8tails
I ended up ordering one September 3rd before reviews were live and am not disappointed. Anyone looking to get this I would recommend the 64GB option for more future proofing as the memory is underneath the motherboard, also double sided SSD will fit in both slots. I am using two Western Digital SN850X 4TB without issue. My machine came with the WiFi 7 card from MediaTek the website says it will be an Intel WiFi 6E when you buy it.
  • @theguard1
I have the Legion Pro 7i and I love the ceramic keys on mine! They look nice, stay cooler to the touch and just feel nice.
  • @anika82659
How's that liquid cooling system helping? It's just a small loop and when the water will get hot, that hot water will just run through the loop again and again. No radiator + fan to cool the water.
  • @saraht5671
I like your videos. The way you explain is brief and informative.

This laptop costs almost 6000$ in Norway. I could build an RTX 4090 desktop with a good X670E motherboard with a top of the line Ryzen cpu and buy a Odyssey Neo G8 4k 240hz mini led monitor. And I would still have 1000 bucks left to spend on other things. It is a very impressive laptop that's for sure but it is extremely overpriced here.
