I had thanksgiving today. I have prepared for weeks and cooked for two days. I'm exhausted!! We had very little left over so I guess I'll feel good that everyone liked the food. I prepared all of it as low carb and sugar free as possible. And to think Christmas is just a few weeks away. I need to rest up!! your meal looked wonderful!!!
  • I use the old Libbyā€™s pie recipe. I tried the new one when they changed it a few years ago and everyone noticed. It was unanimous, the old recipe was better. And I think easier

For the turnovers, I normally put a slit or two on top for venting and I also try to remember to do an egg wash around the edges to help it seal. I've only used strawberry pie filling for them and I'm not really good at judging the right amount. Sometimes it seems like it's not that much when it really is. But venting the top really does help it not explode as much. My issue normally is trying not to get the liquid part to spill over the edges when folding it.
  • I love your variation of the turnovers! Traditional dutch ones ('appelflappen') are made with an apple and raisins mix (just add a bit of cinnamon and sugar). I also press the edges of the turnovers with a fork to keep it from spilling the fillings.
  • I doubled the spice quantities in the Libbyā€™s recipe to make the pie taste more ā€œpumpkin spice.ā€ My family loved it!

Instead of fluting the crust to the turnovers like u did and how u would with pie , use a fork and crimp the edges all the way around like u would with peanut butter cookies or something like that and it should hold together better ( not explode as much ) thatā€™s how my mom taught me and she worked in a bakery for years , itā€™s how she was taught . Hope this helps ā¤ everything looked amazing , hope you had a beautiful holiday kimmy
