How does one define "you"? Bloom Into You calls attention to the performativity in our relationships with others--the masks we wear to hide our true selves. Framed through the student council's play in the second half, Touko in particular struggles with her identity, trying to maintain her special image by not letting anyone see the person inside--except Yuu. In this video, I dive into how Bloom Into You answers this question of what it means to understand others--and yourself. Enjoy!

"Maybe Touko loves Yuu not because Yuu understands her, but because Touko understands herself When she's with Yuu." my heart is overwhelmed with feelings after hearing that line!

I wish there were more anime’s like this. With depth. With vision. With genuine love. Heartbreak. Romance with a positive ending. Need more Yuri like this. Not harem. Just between two people. Falling in love.

I'm just glad we have a yuri story that doesn't feel overtly fluffy, smutty or melodramatic, but actually tackles the love between two girls in Japan realistically, at least by anime standards.
  • Touko doesn't want Yuu to love a person whom she hates, but Yuu doesn't want Touko to hate a person whom she loves

This was one of my favorite anime of all time

I don't usually like shoujo ai anime, but damn. This one was good.
  • I started watching Bloom into You solely because it was a shoujo-ai. Never would have thought it would convey so many feelings of the girls' inner self rather than just showing superficial relationship between the the two what we see all too often in romance anime. Definitely one of my favourites from the 2018 fall season.
  • Anyone who liked the anime, I highly recommend you continue with the manga. The show covers chapters 1-24 almost exactly, so start at chapter 25. Still ongoing, so hoping for a season two once it's finished (it's almost done).
  • Wow. This was beautiful. Great video, man. I love how Bloom into you isn't just a "Yuri anime". Because it doesn't try to be just that. Romance stories shouldn't be just, well, the romance. People exist outside of school, too. People exist outside of the relationships they have. It all builds up to shape who you are, and at the end of the day, there's so many things happening in peoples heads that is no wonder that we're all a mess. We usually don't know "who we are". Bloom Into You understands this. That's why is my favorite anime of 2018. You did justice to that feeling with this video. I'm glad to see your videos again.

Recently people made a lot of review on Bloom Into You and many of them fell in love with it, that's actually what this anime deserves. Bloom Into You needs even a lot more recognition! Let's support the creator and producer by buying their merchandise, mangas, DVDs, etc. and putting a good rating on medias so perhaps they may consider another season!

Yuu kuddeling her blanket while talking to Touko. So sweet.
  • @celestialnerd
I love how they depicted Yuu and Nanami's relationship as something so much more than just romance in Bloom. I really hope we get a season 2!
  • Don’t fall in love with me ok? Me: throws soda WELL QUIT KISSING HER THEN!!! this was a very well written Anime story and not smutty or overly fluffy more like a real life scenario and for that we thank you
  • Haven’t watched many yuri series but I got recommended this one saying it was one of the best, and honestly it doesn’t even deserve to be labeled as just that, this is straight up one of the best romances I’ve ever watched/read. Didn’t expect to get this immersed in Yuu and Touko’s relationship and even began to root for Sayaka so find happiness, considering I didn’t really like her at the beginning but I really warmed up to her as she developed. Honestly this was such a great surprise,it’s almost criminal that it doesn’t have a s2 yet...Bloom Into You really deserves to be concluded.
  • As always the anime community only described this anime as "yaay lesbians" and didn't look beyond the surface. Now I'm definitely going to watch it... or at least add it to the long list of shows I've still yet to watch.
  • @HiHello-ts8ws
Watching bloom into you is the best decision of my life
  • @AnbuNinjaXIII
Ugh Bloom Into You is just.....so much more than what it seems on the surface. For such a small series it’s amazing how deep and high quality it is. I love it to death. A total gem. As a writer, it’s pretty inspiring, tbh. And that’s not even mentioning how gorgeous it is, the world class manga art, gorgeous backgrounds in the anime, the outstanding soundtrack, or the incredible directing and voice acting.
  • The only problem that I have with this analysis is that it accepts a priori the existence of a 'true self', as if there's something that exists outside or independent of our various performative relationships with others. The role of student, parent, friend, co-worker, child and so on is not a coat cast over and hiding a 'true self', all these roles, in their combination and intersection define 'the self'.
  • @shadushio9682
I haven't watched it yet, but am excited to see a same sex relationship be the focus of an anime that is high quality. Most of the others have had glaring issues (Citrus) or have been too short (Asagao to Kase-san).
  • The last ever scene made my heart shutter and it made me to think that I NEED THE FRICKIN SEASON 2 AHHHHHHH
