How to Drive on Left Side of Road in Thailand!

Published 2016-06-20
Here's a tutorial on how to drive on the left side of the road for those of you traveling to countries like Thailand, UK, Japan, New Zealand, etc... where people are driving on the opposite side of the road.

If you are coming from U.S., go to your local AAA office and get an international driving permit, bring $30, you U.S. license, and passport photo. That's ALL you need to drive in over 200+ countries.

If you want free car rental insurance, just pay for any car rentals with your American Express card and do not accept insurance the rental car company offers you, that's it!

I used Galaxy S7 Edge and Lanparte Gimbal, you can grab the Lanparte gimbal here:

“They will die, but you will be safe”. Lmao 😂 thanks for the tips
  • " At the worst, You'll hit them, They'll die and you'll be safe" Cant stop laughing.

It's not recommended to drive in the right-most lane if the road has two or more lanes. The right-most lane is the fast lane or the overtaking lane. Riding that lane to avoid motorbikes will probably cause road rage as you will straddle it. It's supposed to be for overtaking only.

I watched this vdo b4 i went on holiday this july. it helped me a lot . I did not drive a automatic car, but using a stik was not a problem. Biggest problem was the turn signal :) Thanx a lot.

Reminds me of when Okinawa transitioned to right hand drive cars driving on the left. Didn't have the option of an automatic. A 4 speed was interesting, very interesting.
  • @mk_1275
Still helpful today !! I’m going to Saint Lucia 🇱🇨 and they drive on the left side too there. Thank youuuuu

Thank you for a great video, and advice. Much appreciated.
  • Thank you so much! My husband and I are traveling internationally this summer, so we are trying to learn how to drive on the left side of the road!
  • @DiscoveringAsia
Thank you, a big help to actually see where the controls are rather than someone just explaining it. BTW I had a double-shot every time you said left and passed out.
  • @VegasElement
It looked as if you had a zoom lens on your Lanparte, but that gimbal doesn't come withh one. What kind of lens is that? Thank You.
  • @flavioa5722
thanks for the tutorial bro. I will use this when I never go to Thailand
  • If it's left, left, left rule, why would I stick to the right lane when using a road with more than one lane? Another question is what if I approach a crossroads without any give way signs? Who shall go first? Guy on a left or right hand side?

4:47 I recall when I first got my BMW and turn on the turn signal for the first time. A windshield wiper has immediately popped up
  • @aa9642aa
Now rainy season in Thailand and windshield wiper control is on the left left left. Drive carefully!
  • wow! very useful , I am afraid to drive in Thailand due to the steering wheel is on the left here in the USA.
  • @izzwan686
I came from a country with right side driver. But for some cars korean, european or american cars. The signal is the same. Left side signal right side wiper. Just got my korean car. And i am still struggling with signalling and windscreen wiping.

I'm currently learning how to drive a car and the trafic in Chiang mai is insane. Also you were driving past where I live atm xD

We're in Phuket and luckily they have Bolt, Grab and InDriver apps for getting rides. I wish Phuket had a better public transportation system but the buses can't be counted on. I'm thinking about renting a car for a few days just to practice and see if I enjoy driving myself or just counting on ride share apps. Coming from the US, it's quite an adjustment to drive on the left, great video, thanks for the tips.
