In this video we talk about the problem with Minecraft Villagers, as they're often considered overpowered and make Minecraft too easy. Do Minecraft Villagers need to be nerfed? are their trades and trading loops overpowered?

I love a good rant about Minecraft

putting villager trades into tiers that require more effort to unlock would definitely solve the problem. as much as I enjoy the idea of everything being a farmable resource, this meta shouldn't be so accessible at the start of a world.

I really agree with locking the levelling up system behind a fee, and charging the badges material would be a nice mechanic we're already seeing with the smithing templates and requiring 7 diamonds in order to duplicate them. Overall, charging 25 Diamonds for a Max level village would be absolutely justifiable, but also could be tied towards the trades in their next level. Either, we go the enchanting table way and you have to pay a blind fee for the upgrade not knowing what trades will be given, or you can see the trades in their inventory once their xp level has reached their maximum, but are simply unable to purchase any of them items. Another mechanic could be that the price for upgrading the villager varies depending on their trades, which, if it were a blind fee and then next trades were not visible, a high upgrade price may hint at the next trades holding high value items.

in my opinion the problem is how easy it is to get the trades down by turning them into zombie villagers and then curing them

Guys there's legit a villager at the end of the video that's wearing a top hat and it completely threw me off. You all need to watch to the end of the video to see it. It's worth it.

I use Villagers for everything, because I kinda hate mining (Ironic for Minecraft tbh) but I understand your point
  • @TeaEnderman
I think maybe making viagers rarer could be another approche since transporting them is a pain

After starting a server with my friends on Saturday last week, I can see how op villagers are, I’m still in iron armor taking my time, whereas around 3/4 of them are just working only on villagers and getting maxed out. This would be a great solution so that way everyone just doesn’t op within the first few days of the server lol

As someone who doesnt like mining, i see villagers as my best friends

I think his idea is pretty good. Although I do think the only way it could work effectively is if they way improve the exploration, caving, and dungeonearing in Minecraft.

I can agree that villagers are op but i think a better solution is to make the trades more expensive when you change their trade. This makes it a lot harder to just get every book the first day and then just be finished with the game.

Here because of the announced nerf to trading lmao. Imo your method is much better than just straight up nerfing the discounts themselves. Mojang’s method just feels like an extra minor inconvenience especially considering most people have raid farms set up by the time a trading hall is set up anyway. Edit: new snapshot bringing biome based enchantments are somehow even more annoying than just straight up nerfing discounts. Can’t imagine having to transport villagers thousands of blocks to get a mediocre book

When I play minecraft I never go caving, always buying my armor and tools from villagers.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the challenge... ... Of opening the trade menu, nothing quite like it!

Realised villagers were not well designed and fun gameplay after 10 or so hours of placing and removing a lectern so I can get books to stand a chance against players with more gear. Second realisation hit when I found out you can trade for actual diamond gear , and that its both faster and less risky than caving. Don’t remember making any crop farms in recent memory , was just faster to find another village. Discouraging taking risks and discouraging building stuff probably isn’t good

ah yes. I love sla- I mean "business partners"
  • This is absolutely something that needs to be implimented because the biggest problem with the game right now is being able to obtain everything incredinly quickly. This would help A LOT with the progression of the game and would make the game more fun in my opinion. My best times in Minecraft have been the early game and the grind to the late game, but since villagd and pillage, its both boring and unsatisfying. Also, I do lowkey like villagers trading treadure itsms, but maybe there should be a treasurer villager with a very expensive work station that maybe requires Netherite or something to that degree. Just an idea bc for the very late game, having to fish for nametags (wich shouldnt even be a treasure item) is ridiculous.
  • @void2975
I do like this idea, but i think the bigger problem is the discount rate Example) cure a villager to get a discount, or have a villager to turn into a zombie, zombifie said villager, cure and now all nearby villager have discounts(both are repeatable and stackable), buy a Bookshelf from a librarian (can get down to 1 emerald) break and sell the books(1 book = 1 emerald, due to discount), this is only blocked by how many the villager can sell and buy at a time also there is "the hero of the village discount"
