Kurzgesagt is not just a popular science outreach channel. It's a major tool for propaganda of their billionaire sponsors.

Kurzgesagt received estimated $7 million from billionaire funds. This would be more money than Kurzgesagt received from their supporters on Patreon (estimated $3.5 million) in the entire history of the channel.

My generation laughs at our grandparents believing everything they they see&hear on TV. I guess it's time to laugh at us believing the Internet :(
  • @truth.speaker
When Kurzgesagt say they are funded by viewers they aren't lying. Those billionaires are viewers too 😐😕
  • @nathan1507
It's not about believing in Kurzgesagt or this dude. What matters is that people start looking up information for their own.
  • @North_annex
idc whose right and wrong in this drama, but the great part is, its making people question the data they see more, which you should do anyway
  • @WarpDoomer
It's scary how corporations are able to determine public opinion almost at wish. It's just not humanely possible to critically analyse all of the gigantic amount of propaganda we get bombarded with every single day.
  • @TheSonicfanx1
Man, this is was probably why I liked their hard science videos more. The ones about cool space topics.
  • @haniyasu8236
Ok so the one issue I have with this isn't that it's incorrect, it's that this is and has been a pretty big problem for a while now on a LOT of science channels. Every year you'll get this smattering of a videos from various content creators (most of whom I respect a LOT normally) that are funded by the B&M Gates foundation. And without fail, they all end up somehow subtly steering the conversation about systemic social problems towards breakthrough technologies instead. If anything, I'd say Mark Rober may be an even worse offender than kurzgesagt. He had multiple videos with Gates himself practically letting him steer the conversation unfiltered. And again... I love Mark Rober and Kurzgesagt and all the other science youtube channels out there, but it really is a pretty big problem.

The longer I live the more I realize how insidious the world truly is.
  • @YehudiNimol
This is why I'm worried about Youtube becoming like TV - the more big sponsors are drawn to the site, the more people are incentivized to lie or mislead in their content. This platform has already lost its soul and every single day it's becoming more and more corporate

bill gates: the world needs to lower its standard of living except for me because I know what I'm doing
  • @Dante-ob5mh
In these comments: People taking this video at face value and saying they're ashamed for having taken a different video at face value because they now believe this one.
  • "When big money buys big influence science is always the casualty" well said
  • Bottom line : Anything that involves a very large audience has billionaire octopus claws attached to it.
  • I know that the main focus of Kurz's last video is about the fundings and bias, but I also want to mention that the argument in this video that some info in Kurz's videos is inaccurate seems to be based on out-of-context highlights of sources. For example, in 9:57, THO argues that the graph, based on The World in Data, is wrong, while presenting (yet another) Jason Hickel article that seems to show other results. However, this article has "As of 2015" before the highlighted text, while the World in Data graph is about the historical emissions (not just in 2015) and it is based on data from established, subject-matter expert organisations GCP and CDIAC (just take a look at the bottom right corner of the video) about the emissions throughout many years, including in the 20th century. (I commented about this before Kurz released the last video but no one cared about it)
  • Dude, you talk about proper sourcing the entire time but don’t have the pinned comment for your second set of sources. What the hell?
  • You know that this video isn't some random conspiracy theory cause he's linked all his resources, he's presenting a bold and controversial take, and there's a good chance he gets attacked for this video. Regardless, impressive stuff, can't wait to see what kurzgesagt has to say (Edit: I came across a lot of different perspectives about this video through the replies to my comment. I'm still keeping an open mind about this situation.)
  • @LamboWalker23
Its sad that this masterpiece will only reach about 5% of the regular Kurgzesagt viewers.

"My generation laughs at our grandparents believing everything they they see&hear on TV. I guess it's time to laugh at us believing the Internet" quote from this comment section. 1 person tells you not to believe the other and you instantly believe this person and hate the other? ironic
