The C8 Corvette has a great uncle in this naked 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT. This mid-engine Fiero GT has been engine swapped with a 3800sc Supercharged L67 with ZZP Stage 2.5 intercooler, ZZP XP camshaft, upgraded heads, Jet-Hot coated ZZP powerlogs, and many more upgrades. It isn't an LS Swap, but it is almost as good and has lots of support. It is on the home stretch for this restoration of GM's mass produced mid-engine car and this engine swap.

1987 Fiero GT Engine Upgrades

1998 Grand Prix GTP 3.8L Supercharged Engine
3800sc Series II
Engine was from a one owner donor vehicle
Partial engine rebuild
Painted with Eastwood’s 2K urethane ceramic engine paint
Upgraded to an Eaton M90 Gen V supercharger
ZZP Stage 2.5 Intercooler
3.4” Supercharger Pulley
Cadillac Northstar Throttle-body Swap and ZZP Adapter
ZZP (CompCam) XP high performance camshaft
Modified heads with 136lb valve springs, ARP Studs
LS7 Hydraulic Lifter
ZZP Stainless Steel Valves
Jet-Hot ceramic coated ZZP PowerLogs (front and rear)
Jet-Hot coated crossover tube with DEI Titanium exhaust wrap
Flowmaster 3” high flow catalytic converter
Custom 3” stainless steel exhaust to muffler
FlowTech Afterburner Muffler 5036FLT (3” inlet 2 x 2.5” outlets)
Dual 2.5” stainless steel exhaust to C6 dual tips

Since the body panels are off, people aren’t sure what car it actually is. The top guesses are Toyota MR2, Chevrolet Corvette, and a few people have actually said Mazda Miata MX6.

The Pontiac Fiero competed with the Toyota MR2. The original MR2 was squared off, but the 2nd generation MR2 looks like it took cues from the Fastback Fiero GT. The 2020 and 2021 Corvette C8 have a similar mid-engine layout and the front trunk and rear trunk are in close to the same location.

I'm 57 years old, and was graduating high school when the first Fiero's hit the road. I was "meh" about the red pointy ones, I can't lie. But, the 87-88 GT fastback were beautiful looking little sports cars. I've been an absolute fan ever since. My friends have been brutal about my choice, but I've forced them all into a corner on the subject, making them take a good hard look at what can be accomplished with and engine swap and suspension upgrades. Your 3.8L supercharged conversion is sweet!
  • Amazing! I'm definitely a die hard 3.8 guy, I've had two regular 3.8 grand prix and currently now have a SC 3800 GTP, been absolutely dying to drop one of these in a Fiero GT myself. Yours is incredible, love the hood work that shows it, kudos!

Yup like i say in the forums,, the 3800 series swaps are definitely the wat to go for these little fiero cars. Has a better balance to it. Awesome car i know many are envious tonight after seeing this. I love the paint straight from the gun forget the cut and buff it looks better.
  • I was driving my 1987 Fiero 2M6 SE Notchback Silver, sunroof, full body kit with large spoiler 2.8l v6 4 speed and 76k miles. I purchased it for $1,800 in 1993 and I sold it for the same $1,8000 to another student in 1998 after high school. It was AMAZING I LOVE IT STILL, now at 40 years old I have a Yellow 1988 GT T-Top, I just swapped my 56k mile 2.8l with a new crate 3.8l Supercharged making 475HP to a 6 speed transmission. It's not your mom's Fiero that's for sure, It is scary fast. Hello from Colorado

I've been a Fiero fan since they first came out in 84. (I was in college then) I had an 84 fiero in 84. Then I bought 85 GT, Two 86 GT's, an 87 GT, then I bought a New Formula, Then an 88 GT in 89 because the 88's sold out before I could get a new one. Then I ended up buying 3 more GT's. Sold my last one 10 years ago. Never had more than two at a time. Always wanted to do a project like you've done. I've also had 3 corvettes. 79 before I got my first Fiero. Then a 92 in 95. Then 2005 in 2008. Believe it or not I've always liked my GT Fiero's more than my corvettes. Even though I enjoyed the speed of the Corvettes I always wished the Fiero could have had similar performance. Thats why I researched all the engine swaps. I even drove down to the Fiero factory to talk about it. I sold one of my GT's to the owner. The Fiero was always on the installment plan from day one. Engine then suspensions. Even the wheels. Anyway you've created my dream Fiero!!! Its Awesome!!! I'm 62 now and I think I'm going to start looking for another GT.
  • @mr.2cents.846
Wow, it trned out beautiful. Love the window in the back. The Fiero realky is a Farrari for the poor. I myself yad once a 300hp Fiero GT. And then it disappeared.
  • @erics8192

  • @ThatGuy-yk9lg
    Sweet ride. I'm in marianna and I'm restoring a 86 with the 308 body. I'm also doing a 3800sc.
  • @MrJOESHMOE135
This has to be the cleanest Fiero I've ever seen, yet...beautiful! Question...where did you get the air side scoops?
  • AMAZING story. I need your help. I have an 84 Fiero I’m doing the same swap to. My mounts came from Fiero Rog to! How do I get ahold of Danny out of Canada for the wiring harness? Best wishes. Jon
