Now you just need to do What Could Have Been for Ghostbusters 2, and the circle will be complete. Dan Aykroyd had some really out there ideas like the team going to Scotland

Another great “What If”. I remember reading in Cinefex magazine when Aykroyd told the effects wizards about the ghost then named “Onionhead”. He had not told anyone he had added this for his friend Belushi, and when described, someone said, “Hey sounds like Bluto in Animal House”. Aykroyd said nothing and everyone knew it was, essentially, Belushi’s ghost – which is why he “slimes” Bill Murray as that was originally his part.

Damn, imagine being a ghost in this universe. Not only are you forced to haunt the Earth for eternity, you may have to spend most of it in a gas station in New Jersey. Jokes aside, this original, darker version of the film sounds awesome. Great research on this one Mr Bullets!

I would’ve liked to see Winston with the backstory of having been an Air Force demolitions Major which could help with some of their technologies

I’d love to see an animated Ghostbusters movie like this, with all the fantastical ghosts in alternate dimensions, it could be something really special

That black ecto 1 looks sick!! Especially with the lights white! & purple! Dude!!

Ray's "sexual encounter" with a ghost was always and still is THE most uncomfortable scene in that whole movie.
  • Also, unrelated, but I think Winston being the audience character in my opinion is something Lucas should've took notes for for the Prequel trilogy. I.E. have a character who's basically a POV for the audience, so we can have stuff ACTUALLY explained to us properly through said audience character.

There's an episode or two of The Real Ghostbusters animated series that effectively places the team inside the original 'hopping across dimensions' concept. It's actually pretty cool.

I read a story that Christopher Lee's agent told him there were two scripts that wanted him. One was some worthless thing Ivan Reitman was pushing but the OTHER was a Stephen Speilburg production sure to be a big hit. So, apparently, Lee's agent talked him out of "Ghostbusters," and into "1941," which wasn't a "flop" so much, but did kind of underperform. In a book on the original premise of the film, they DO mention "Gozer" being a middle aged man, but they implied that he was manifesting as Ivo Shendor. And while they didn't say it, I can't help but wonder if THAT'S where they wanted Christopher Lee? Could you imagine THAT voice saying; "Are YOU a god?"

Thanks for telling how much work was done to create the first Ghostbusters movie. It was a colossal achievement with a lot of changes that shaped it into a great action comedy with heart and soul, from the great cast to the great writing. Something that is not done as often today with new comedies produced. That's why the first Ghostbusters movie will remain a classic.

An animated version of this would be awesome.

Love Eddie, he's such a great presence... but man the first Ghostbusters is so near perfect for what we got. Love that cast, the plot, the humor...and the 80's weird it is. Thank you for this, I get excited for most all your videos.
  • It’s really cool watching what could’ve been, it’s like watching an alternate version of the movie..
  • I think the next inevitable REMAKE of Ghostbusters needs to be Dan Aykroyd's original idea fully realized. Interdimensonal, time, space traveling competitive business.
