To this day, every time I go to Spanish party, they always play La Bamba. Every time I hear that song, I smile knowing that Richie’s music Legacy is still alive today.
  • I am Texas born, but live in a border town where the Mexican culture is prevalent. I remember when this movie came out. A mexican-American rocker from the 50's, played by a Phillipino born actor, singing a song that is originally from a native area of the state of Veracruz, Mexico. Thank you for this scene, it transported me to my teen yrs.

I'm born in Colorado and grew up with great influence from Mexico. All the culture, the people, the festivities, and of course the music are really fundamental to me. Ritchie Valens and his cover of La Bamba is one of those good examples, though it used to be a traditional Mexican song way back before Valens and Lou Diamond Philips. I remember watching the movie and it was so good, honestly. I know I really want to visit Mexico one of these days, because I never been there before and of how much I was raised with its influence. Thank you, Lou Diamond Philips, for your amazing cover.
