African wild dogs are the greatest hunters on the continent, with an incredible 80% success rate. It’s all down to teamwork: these highly social animals live and work in groups of 20 or more.

But wild dogs are endangered. Only 6,600 adults remain in the wild with just 1,400 old enough to breed. And with diseases like rabies decimating packs, the fight for survival is getting tougher. We follow a lone pair of wild dogs through Zimbabwe as they struggle to keep their young family alive.

The last remaining members of a pack decimated by rabies, they must face down lions, hyenas, and sheer starvation in order to stay alive. It isn’t easy – although wild dogs have some advantages over other African predators. They stalk their prey in slow and stealthy teams, and share the work of hunting and raising young. Is one pair of wild dogs enough to build a new pack?
