Real Doctor & Nurse React to “Nurses” | Medical Drama Review

NBC must think America loves hospitals, because this year they’ve now bought two medical dramas from Canada! This week, I’m reacting to “Nurses”, a prime time NBC show about... yep, you guessed it: Nurses. Just because I work in a hospital doesn’t mean I truly understand the every day hustle of being a nurse though, so I brought on my friend Bianca Antisera, a traveling trauma nurse, to share her insight. There were a lot of puzzling choices in this pilot episode, from unethical blood donations, patient privacy violations, and the bizarre premise that everyone in a hospital is throwing shade all day long. Anything you think we missed?

Thank you so much for having me! I had so much fun 😄 I’m so happy to be able to shed a little light on being a nurse!
  • @jeffehren
I feel like her slogan should be, "I specialize in trauma, not drama." Love these collaborations!
  • @eternyti
"I specialize in trauma." Wow, me too! Just... not in the medical sense.
  • As a registered nurse I found it extremely odd that none of them had penlights or stethoscopes on hand, especially in this emergency situation. Those are some of the things that I make sure that I have before I even start my shift.

Video idea: If I remember correctly, Dr Mike and his dad went to the same medical school. So I was wandering if his dad was willing to talk about his experience compared to Dr Mike's.

I love how she is a nurse and a gamer and has a dinosaur with headphones
  • Hey Doc, combat medic here, a while blood transfer is extremely rare, but does happen in combat zones. There are situations where combat causiltues get stuck in aid stations without the capabilities to store blood (usually waiting on medavacs) and you literally have to put a call out for soldiers with the right blood type and you type and cross everyone then begin the transfer. Its pretty scary, but some trauma patients will die anyways without a blood transfusion so you don't really have a choice.
  • I love how people make jokes about medical dramas saying "come on, doctors and nurses aren't good looking like that" and then: these two.

When my grandma was dying I had to fight the nurse to close the curtains when she changed her diaper. I’m so happy people like you care about patients dignity and understand they were people before they got sick, most nurses were amazing, but unfortunately it’s usually the awful and cruel ones who leave a lasting impression, though I made sure to email the supervisor to say how amazing most of the nurses were, they made my grandma comfortable in her last days and for that I will be forever grateful

My grandma was a nurse for over 45 years. Retired in the late 90s. She passed about 3 years ago. When I was a kid she was the only one I'd let near me to give me a shot! Miss her a lot.

Nurse in real life: "we're gonna fill this file in the system for blood transfusion" Nurse in the show: "I'm O- universal donor, plug me in"

This was soooo interesting to watch. I am no where near being a trauma nurse but hopefully I’ll get there someday on my nursing journey. This was so educational 😍👏🏽 as for the part where the patient started bleeding from her neck, that would’ve been called a code “Eric” at my hospital 🤷🏽‍♀️ has anyone ever heard of that code? I feel like my hospital is the only place that has that code name 😂
  • This entire series summed up in one sentence- ‘no, no, no, that would never happen’

I actually had the honor to walk down with a patient who was donating their organs. It’s very emotional and makes you realize how fragile life is.
  • I like how these two reacted to a show. They got anxiety as if they where there. This shows how professional they are. Something special about seeing people who really enjoy what they do! Very cool!
