This season was very anti black, specifically when it came to Yaya and her Afrocentric nature. She speaks about her African heritage and roots and upbringing, hence the ,"Coming to America" comment. They were so against her and spent the entire season trying to whitewash her and her identity.
  • It is kinda ironic that Janice tells Jennifer that such kind of stunt is a license to get fired, when in reality, Janice has herself told her story on the show about a runway show with Valentino in which she drank so much backstage that she walked off the runway and fell in the lap of Sofia Loren 😅

"THIS IS VALUABLE ADVICE WE'RE GIVING YOU" when offering zero advice. Okay, Regina George.

God, they did Kelle the dirtiest on this shoot! NO WAY that was her best shot! This was tormenting.

Didn’t Yoanna (cycle 2) flash her bum to the judges during a challenge and they laughed? Another example of shifting expectations for the models.
  • That’s so insane! I forgot how upset they got over the ANTM booty cheeks! In another season, they accuse model Yoanna for being too boring and then she turned around and flashed them her booty cheeks and the judges thought it was hilarious. 🙄

Coming To America is a famous movie with Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy. She was probably referring to the royalty that walks around with their head up, I guess?...😂

As a dancer of 10+ years and on many sports teams, "work through the pain" is so thrown around when it should be discussed as nuanced. In rowing, yeah work through the burn of pain, of being strained is a completely different pain to working through something that's wrong. I tried to work through what ended up being a bad hip. I went through intense races feeling my hip pop, a COMPLETELY different pain than the typical burn of pushing yourself to work harder within a reasonable amount. My coaches just told me to keep going when my hip would get stuck. Work harder, the only thing that's important is winning the race. Your body can only go so far based on your strength in training. I had a doctor tell me if I continued rowing I would need hip surgery, and I was sixteen. On the other hand, my pointe teacher always emphasized your muscles are going to hurt, your feet are going to hurt, but STOP if your body is telling you something is wrong. A girl I danced with pushed herself too hard which ended her up in surgery and never danced again. I learned the difference between "working through the pain" and knowing when to stop. I knew a certain type of pain meant I was building muscle, while other types were my body telling me a) I was doing something wrong, or b) stop and try a different way, or c) I have more training to do to avoid truly hurting myself. It just sucks that these girls are told to work through the pain, and then in some seasons guilted when they don't listen to their body!
  • What is the point in wearing shoes that are too small for you? This challenge makes no sense.
  • Yay! Thanks for another great video! The "let's get you naked!" episodes in the earlier seasons always grossed me out as a young girl. Now, as an adult, it seems diabolical. It's a dangerous message to send to girls and women: "Take off your clothes now and ignore your feelings and reservations about it." Also, it's kind of sad that Toccara seems so happy and empowered here because, by the end of her run on the show, she is broken down, shy, quiet, and just ready to go. The only good thing ANTM did for her was get her in front of the camera. She had to build her career herself.

I have permanent nerve damage in my feet from wearing heels that were too small for a few hours. That pain continues to haunt me a decade later. I didn’t know there could be long term consequences and thought I just had too tough it out for the day
  • Fr Nigel saying “I’m sorry, what agent is going to take on a legally blind model??” during panel probably dashed a lot of people’s actual dreams who watched this 😔

When Yoanna lifted up her skirt and showed the judges her butt cheeks during a challenge in cycle 2 - the judges praised her for it and said that finally she stepped out of her shell and she’s being fun and playful.
  • @TenMoogles
Janice: I was in heels when I was like 7 Jessica: I was playing Pokemon Me @ Age 30: I'm playing Pokemon while watching this video.
  • @hunnibunni20
I have literally seen Tyra move her head around like yaya did in some of her model footage. She sounded a fool. And Nigel said that mess because he felt embarrassed when she told him why she moves the way she does. She can be blind, she is talented.
  • @cdn0199
Wait. Hold up. Nigel says regarding walking with vision loss "This is something you will have to do, however you can overcome it"..... Except not be shown the runaway ahead of time. We established that last time. The hypocrisy!

Coming to America is a movie from the 1980’s with Eddie Murphy. That is what she’s referencing. In the film Eddie was a wealthy prince from a fictitious African country. They were royalty so the way Yaya walked out reminded her of some of the characters in the movie.
  • @JEPiper
Stupid challenge, but one of the many instances of Toccara being ✨ICONIC✨
  • @PandoraStolen
See they are hypocrites. In season 2, during a test for panel, they told Yoanna to make them laugh or to prove she has a personality or something like that. She turned around and lifted her skirt showing them her butt and they all thought it was hilarious and the greatest thing and they praised her for it.
