If you look at Doc Rivers nba career as a whole it becomes very clear why this team underachieved. There's a reason teams have coaches.

Plus, the team was aging rapidly after KG injury and signing too many old players until paul and kg left.
  • It’s because Paul Pearce was drafted in 99, Ray Allen drafted in 96, and Kevin Garnett was drafted in 1995. Those dudes were old. Remember, they went life and death with Atlanta if I remember correctly, taking seven games to beat them. While they had great Talent, they were at their prime end. Getting Rajon Rondo, was the best thing that they could ever have because it allowed for the team to extend their greatness just enough.

Tripping. They LITERALLY almost won a 2nd ring together. Game 7 Finals loss by only 4pts to a good Lakers squad 🤷🏾‍♂️

The biggest reason was KG's injury. I don't think it's controversial to say that though he deferred to Pierce he was their best player. There's other factors like a rapidly aging cast and Doc Rivers holding them back.

This Boston superteam definitely had a short expiry date and the cracks did show during those playoff series they went 7 games for. Still, they pushed my Lakers to a grueling 7 game finals series. That game 7 alone was an epic nailbiter.

Second crazy how this Celtics team was one of my favorites teams to play with from 08-12 never will forget Paul peirce slow jumpshot on 2k10-11
  • @kl2389
They have the best chance to repeat in 2009. The Celtics played great during the 2008-2009 season before Garnett's knee injury.

When KG left Minnesota and teamed up with Pierce and Allen, my reaction was "FINALLY!"
  • @blackman34
KG had surgery in 09 after we were knocked out. 2011. The Celtics dominated Miami in the regular season but we traded Perkins in the trade deadline.

The Lakers were missing Bynum in the 08 finals, people forget he was an All Star and scored very easily in the paint, blocked shots and rebounds
  • @hewhoislife
People seem to forget this team was old as hell
  • @AirRusher1992
Quite frankly, another reason why the Celtics besides KG's injury in 2009 is the Miami Heat Big which is their main Kryptonite losing to them in the Playoffs for 2 years in a row. Not to mention, most of the members of this team saw their reputation change mainly Paul Pierce who would talk smack consistently and Doc Rivers who would keep getting coaching gigs before returning to broadcasting recently for ESPN and ABC teaming up with Mike Breen and Doris Burke.

At 9.53 and forward you can catch a rare defensive hustle by Knicks Carmelo. Strange. Gave me chills.

They were already old when they teamed up and got beaten by a younger better big 3. Still very impressive how good they were at their age in 2012 though. They could have been a 1 and done but were a force in the east for a good 4-5 years
  • @anjr9915
The biggest reason why is because of KG's injury plain and simple, great video. It also shouldn't matter whether you sweep or not, winning the series is ultimately the end result. Danny Ainge also made some horrible trades after 2010.

For those who didn't see Posey in Boston, he was a lot like Battier was for Miami in that he was a 3/4 3&D tweener with no ego who allowed the Celtics to play small ball with KG at the 5. We wouldn't see that again until the Celtics got Jeff Green in 2011, and even then, it never fully materialized because Green missed all of 2012 (he might have swung the ECF against Miami) and by the time he returned in 2013, Ray Allen was gone and Pierce and Garnett were really starting to show their age. I think had Garnett not hurt his knee in 2009, the Celtics probably three-peat and maybe they even beat the Thunder in 2012 as well with a healthy Green and Bradley swinging the Miami series.

would love to see this kind of video but for the '83 76ers and any of the early 2000s Spurs champion teams
  • @marioaustin9312
Had they come together three to five years earlier, they'd be a dynasty
  • @Supreme36074
They were so good they won. DESPITE Doc that first year … KG & his injury stopped them from repeating . Not resigning James Posey hurt too.
