A man gives an account of a tornado destroying his house.

A split-second decision may have saved a father and his young son’s lives as a tornado destroyed their house in Arabi, La. Tuesday night.

Jason Dickerson said he was in the den when he first heard the tornado.

“The wind and rain was blowing on the side of the house and it quit…I opened the side door and it quit and just went quiet," he said. "I knew that wasn’t a good sign.”

Thank you to the newscaster for letting this man speak. So often interviewers just want to hear themselves talk at the expense of the story.
  • This was an excellent interview. Considerate, compassionate interviewer who asked intelligent questions. Articulate, well-spoken interviewee who has his priorities in order.

Powerful video. He's very articulate and being from West Tennessee, yes, he's seen a few tornadoes in his life. This reporter is great. Great composure, very patient, asks intelligent questions. Praying for all in the NOLA area. 💙🙏💙
  • Although he never verbally said the words, during that silent moment, I heard a father screaming “God I Love my son! Please save my son!” I had no idea what true love was until my daughter was born. Sorry for your loss of a home but great job being a Dad!
  • I'm crying listening to this brave man's story. God bless them and all that have been affected by the many storms and flooding the last few days and still happening. Prayers from TN.

Very good interview. This young lady should go places. So sorry for the loss of his home but to have survived and protected your child is more than one could ask for.

He is such a loving father. His son is so lucky. Also what the mother was going through listening to all this on the phone and not being able to do anything

I live in Houston. This was one of the first reports I saw about the tornado. WWL should be proud to have a reporter like this. The interview wasn't rushed. I really got a sense of what this man went through, and the reporter was compassionate about the situation. I think a lot of hearts were tugged on that night. Great job WWL.
