Recommended Flies
1. Woolly Bugger in Olive, Black, White, and Brown. Sizes 10 to size 6 are great. I tend to fish bead head buggers in a size 8 exclusively. Beaded buggers are great for getting depth in deeper pools. If you want to target trout feeding closer to the surface or in shallow water, opt for a beadless woolly bugger.
2. Thin Mint in sizes 10 to size 6.
3. Conehead Woolly Bugger in Olive, Black, White, and Brown. Sizes 10 to 6.
4. Sparkle Minnow is a variation of a bugger and absolutely works tremendously. Sizes 8 to size 4.

1:26 Setting Up Your Fly Rod with a woolly bugger and what is the best gear.

It's recommended to use 5, 6, or 7-weight fly rods when fishing woolly buggers and streamer flies. Plus, use a 0x, 1x, or 3x tippet and 6-foot fly leader for easier casting.

2:59 Tying a Non-Slip Loop Knot
3:55 Effective Woolly Bugger Fishing Techniques

You can strip, swing, or dead-drift woolly buggers. When you do feel a fish strike your woolly bugger fly, use a strip set to set the hook.

5:57 Slow Stripping Wooly Buggers for a passive presentation to imitate large nymphs and leeches. You can also jig your streamer downstream by raising and lowering your rod tip.

I believe the WB is the best all around fly ever created. In any given situation there might be a better pattern for that situation but the WB is never wrong. The only way to fish it wrong is to not keep it in the water.

Great video. The olive WB is my go-to fly. I bet 50% of all the fish I’ve caught fly fishing have been on this fly. I did learn about the different retrieval methods based on seasonality from this video. Thanks.

Hi Really liked the presentation of the video. Clear concise explanation of the “woolly buggers” make up and presentation “ in the water. What it imitates. How it reacts in different waters/how to fish it in different waters. Really video footage, with out unnecessary music or sound effects. I learnt something/reinforced knowledge from watching this. Thank you for sharing and making. Looking forward to watching more of your content. All the best Dave
  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. You slipped and called it a wooly booger.
