One of the main limitations of speed is how quickly the hotend can melt the filament. Once you find that out, you build your profile and speeds based off of that. If you are exeeding the heating capabilities of your hotend youre not going to have strong prints, you'll have weak layers, under extrusion, and even dimmsional accuracy issues. Using the Layer Height x Layer Width x Speed formula to figure out your max flow rate of the profile and staying within the hotend capabilities is going to be the best foundation for any slicer profile.
  • @PaulLemars01
I regularly use a 0.8 nozzle and a 0.4 layer height to rip prototypes. You're going to have to work a lot harder to sell me on a $200 slicer when PrusaSlicer is out there.
  • @MCsCreations
Really interesting indeed! Thanks, Chuck! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Stay safe there with your family! ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿ˜Š
  • @larry527az3
I have an older version of Simplify (4.x I think) but since they stopped supporting it for so long I wasn't going to invest into it again. Too bad, it wasn't a bad slicer but their track record worries me too much.
  • @MisterkeTube
It sounds like S3D isn't limiting the speed based on the max. flowrate of the filament and hotend combo. Other slicers reduce speed if that would exceed the flow limit or the required cooling. The speed benchy profiles typically throw out all those limits in the slicer and disable other things that cost extra time. There's nothing really magical about them, but unless you know what you're doing, you can seriously lower the print quality with those settings.
  • You can improve print speeds by turning off acceleration control and reducing minimum layer print time. I printed a benchy in under 9 minutes. It wasn't pretty but it was possible.

General Question to all: On the screen under Movement/Temp there are speed options of...Ultrafast 125%, Standard 100%, Stable 50%, and Silent. What print speeds (mm/s) each of these equivalent to??? Also, which of these speeds are recommended for PLA, Hyper PLA, and Carbon.
  • @3DPFactory1
Awesome thanks Chep. That's why you have always been my goto slicer Guru. Top stuff ๐Ÿ‘
  • Hey Chep, I am a big fan of the channel keep up the good work. I was wondering would you consider doing a video on Orca slicer as a whole. I have been using your profiles on Cura for years and they are great. I recently tried Orca slicer out. It's ok but I transferred over some settings from my Ender Cura speed settings, and it isn't even close to what I get from your profiles. I also changed acceleration, jerk settings, and some others as well. I am not sure why I can't get close to the performance I easily get from Cura. I am a Cura fan, but I want to have a little bit more variety as well as experiment with other software.
  • @UnCoolDad
Perhaps someone will do some deep statistical analysis comparing the gcodes to see where S3D gains its speed from. I suspect it is meant small gains adding up to a lot in there.
  • @lucianot4232
รˆ possibile provare a fondo la Creality CR-10 SE? Grazie ๐Ÿ˜Š
  • @JustAlb1n
You can get the same speed on creality slicer if you know what to adjust you donโ€™t have to buy anything.
  • @daliasprints9798
If Cura and Orca are giving you benchies that slow, you must have a minimum layer time or something limiting it.
