  • Did this video really do a history of the Georgia Dome without the 1996 USA Women's Gymnastics and Kerri Strugg moment?

My high school marching band competed at the Bands of America Super Regionals here in 2016 before it closed. For those who don’t know, it was a pretty big deal to be able to compete at a BOA event. Being in the dome for the first time was surreal and being able to go on the field with so much history behind it was really cool.
  • Thanks for making a video about the Georgia Dome. As a lifelong Falcons fan I really appreciate this. Even though our last game of the 2016 season wasn’t so great, that last game at the dome was legendary.

The stadium lasted less than the lifespan of some falcons.
  • I grew up in Athens, Georgia and remember going to an event at the GWCC when they were building the Dome. I thought it was the most amazing building I'd ever seen. Saw Billy Graham there. Went to a Hawks game there, which was cool. Then Mercedes-Benz was built and dwarfed it. Was it an amazing venue? Absolutely. But the new dome is just so much better.
  • The Georgia Dome was not the home stadium for the 1996 summer olympics. The old Atlanta Braves stadium, Turner Field, is the stadium used.
  • I’ve been to 4 events that were Auburn related with a SEC Championship game in 2013, a Chick-fil-A kickoff game in 2015, a 2011 Chick-fil-A bowl game, and a Cam Newton led Carolina team facing the Falcons in 2015. I miss the GA Dome.

Appreciate you doing a story on this! As an Atlanta resident and falcons fan I went to a ton of things at the Georgia Dome. Gotta be honest tho, Mercedes-Benz Stadium is pretty dang amazing tho!
  • How did this even happen? It’s crazy how fast what seem to be new stadiums become not good enough these days.
  • @WilbertAdams1
I attended WrestleMania 27 as well as well as the NFC championship game against Green Bay. And I actually own a pair of Georgia Dome seats as well as a brick from when it was torn down.
  • This was a superb, memory evoking documentary that was as accurate as it can be. It brought back memories for me because this was one of my street hustles. I was the supervisor of the Clean Event cleaning crew for the club level in the dome for 6 years so I had a lot of behind the scenes moments. Good memories ❤️

I performed in the Georgia Dome a year or so before it was demolished when I was a freshman in high school, for the Bands of America Atlanta Super Regional, on Halloween 2015. Our marching band was placed 12th, but it was such an amazing experience either way. Got to eat Chick FIL A and watch all the Halloween revelers pass by. Never will forget being in that beautiful stadium, one of the highlights of my lifetime

Really appreciate this documentary. I remember driving around the Dome construction site in the early 90s and my first game there in 1994 (vs the Cleveland Browns). I was at the glorious final game vs the Packers in the NFC Championship. Now that the current venue is a few years old, it ain't all that. The halo video board isn't great, and the opening in the roof looks to be all of about 6 feet in diameter. New venues in LA and Minneapolis have eclipsed Mercedes Benz Stadium in design and aesthetics. And don't get me started on the number of empty seats for each Falcons game. At least when Atlanta United is playing, fans stay put for the duration.

I saw a 2-3 Falcons games there, as well as attended the Youth Evangelism Conference, the Ringling Brothers Circus, Monster Jam, and a Hawks game there in 1998 when they were playing the Bulls with a huge crowd. I really liked that Hawks team with Christian Laettner, Mookie Blaylock, Steve Smith, Dikembe Mutombo, and Stacey Augmon (I think he played that year, maybe not). Crazy how quickly time seems to have gone by.
  • As of yesterday, it’s been five years since the dome was imploded, and it still hurts knowing how short it’s lifespan was. Hopefully, Mercedes Benz Stadium can live a good amount of decades before it’s replaced as well.
  • I was at the 2016 NFC Divisional Game in Atlanta, and the look of the Dome seemed fine to me. It easily could have been there 10 more years.
  • @KingKilla47
Just discovered your channel today and love how you give us a lesson in the history of these iconic stadiums👍🏻
  • it would be awesome to also do one on turner field cause that was a surprise to build a new stadium for the braves at the same time. even more shocking is how quickly it happend.
  • When I think of the Georgia Dome I will always think of July 6, 1998. The epic match of Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs GOLDBERG which even had a cameo from Karl Malone.
  • @benjones9899
I just remember how steep the nose bleeds were. Only went to one falcons game at the dome.
