I started with a free version bundled with some controller I bought, upgraded to standard and kept using it for a few years. I only upgraded last year to Suite, because by then I already knew the software quite well and knew that Live would remain my DAW of choice. A plus was the fact that the total cost was spread over a few years.

I bought Standard for what I want to do it’s perfect. I’m doing DJ mixes within Abelton. I do plan to create some small beats and my own samples and such but as of right now I’m still learning it.

I had a thought. I can take advantage of the student/teacher discount, so getting Suite for $299 USD is certainly appealing (even if I don't know whether or not I need the extra Suite features yet). However, when Live 13 eventually comes out, the cost to upgrade to the 13 Suite would be huge as opposed to the scenario where I upgrade from 12 Standard to 13 Standard. And so even though Suite is only $125 more right now, I wonder if that would bankrupt me in the long term due to the upgrade price. I don't know if I'm thinking ahead too far, but at the same time I don't want to spend 100s of unnecessary dollars (in the long run) on maintaining Suite if I don't need the features. And I don't actually know if I need them (for context, I have a few years of casual experience in Ableton 11 Intro, but I want to use a range of guitar sounds that I currently don't have access to). So much to think about

Do you need to be a teacher in university to use the discount? Or I could use this discount if I teach on YouTube? Thanks…

2 months later and Intro is USD 99, Standard is USD 439, and the Suite is USD 749... what is going on with Ableton!?!? I use Cuebase and it does everything I need. I don't understand why Ableton is getting so expensive. Cuebase was similar in price... now they are the same or cheaper... 99, 329, $579.99. I got a USB interface and it came with for free. It doesn't side chain compress which is a bummer, but if you are learning OR good enough, you can manually do it.

I wish they would do a monthly payment plan like Bitwig does. You can start and stop payments whenever and pick back up to finish paying it off.

  • @user-md8he7vo6l
I don’t know how to use Ableton at all then should give it a try with intro first and upgrade it to standard??
  • @ImproveHumanity
how in the heck is it Ableton 269 pounds when for me in the US its $750...?
  • I cant find the costs of upgrading 12 strd to 12 suite anywhere, does anybody know? Or some kind of estimate..
  • My path: Ableton lite bundled with hardware, then upgrade to Standard during Black Friday (179€)
  • @DJEasybuckets
As a DJ i will only use it for putting tracks together and warping bpm for tracks. Is intro enough or can i get standard?
  • @MarekG438
Everyone says that Suite licence is expensive. Is it monthly or yearly licence? Because if this is one time purchase than Suite is one of the cheapest tools i ever use
  • @TeleCS
Another affordable way is getting abelton live 11. But where can you buy 11 when everyone seems to be selling 12 now?
  • @Carmai7
I lean towards Ableton Live Pirate!!!!
