So amazing how differently everyone talked to each other back then. What a class act!!!

I met Mark in Pismo Beach, CA in 1989 when I was 18 years old. I was driving through town on a motorcycle road trip and stumbled upon him filming a movie there. It was super late at night after they had finished shooting and there wasn't a single person around except him and me just chatting on the side of the road by my bike for a few moments. It was the most pleasant exchange you could hope for considering I knew every line and sound effect from Star Wars, word for word since I was a little kid. He thought it was way cool I was driving my 1978 Honda Goldwing down the coast staying in KOAs and having the time of my life. He asked me where I was from and I proudly told him "Walla Walla, Washington." He shot right back with: "There's a lot of alliteration in that!" One of my favorite memories.
  • I've listened to Hamill speak before, but not when he was younger. I get the feeling that of the big three (Hamill, Harrison, and Fisher), Hamill was developed beyond his years, so self-assured, well-spoken, and insightful. Love watching these old interviews.

It's really interesting to hear Mark Hamill be so brutally honest about how his success with Star Wars was a double-edged sword, and how much of the industry still looked down on special effects-driven blockbusters in 1983, even with all the success that films like Jaws, ET, Raiders and Star Wars had attained by that point. You would never hear an actor talk like that these days, as everyone now has a small army of corporate-approved PR minders and is told exactly what to say in interviews ("such an honor to be part of Star Wars", "I've been a Marvel fan since I was a little kid!").
  • He was just 32 years old at the time and it´s clear that Star Wars had been both a blessing and a curse in his life. As Carrie Fisher used to say, "I have to pay George Lucas 5 bucks every time I look at the mirror".

"It'll probably be collectors items in another 10 years". LOL.

9:56 A third trilogy starting in 2011? Wow! He was 5 years off, but still. That's quite a prediction to make in 1983.

Kinda sad to see how aware he was of his own typecasting. You can tell it really bothered him.

Great guest, great host, nothing more needs to be said.

Two of the cutest, sweetest people in the business: Mark Hamill and Jeff Goldblum

Great interview. It is strange that the sincerity from Mark here is so absent in most other celebrity interviews. His honesty was refreshing.

Luke speaks very well. Its sad to see he didn't get to show off his potential through other roles.
  • first time seeing this, fascinating. The "Mr. Punk to you" was an amazing comeback.

I remember seeing him in Amadeus in NYC!
