Next year, Tavares as a 3rd line centre at 4-5 AAV will be a great situation. Great faceoff, strong on his skates.

You could see this past season the frustration in his face at missed plays, missed checks lost battles. He seriously degraded this season which got him demoted to the 3rd line at 11 mil. Do I want him to stay? NO trade him get anything for him. Save the salary.

If you can get something of value back I would try to trade him even with something added to the package just to free up that cap hit then I would resign him as a free agent in the off season

John Tavares and Mitch Marner are from Toronto, John is still the best center faceoff man the Leafs have and how many GAMES has he missed, for head aches or stomach issues, NONE!!! He shows up for every game and plays at 100%, who else does that on the Leafs??? Who else is being bounced around, taking the beatings, in front of the net as much as Tavares, NO ONE!!! It's sad to see the rest of the core four play at sublevel hockey, if they all produced as much as John, we would have had the CUP by now!!!

I didn't have an issue with JT this year he wasn't carrying the team but who thought he would at his age

When he signed the deal everyone knew that the Leafs wouldnt be getting good value in the last couple of years. So, people need to stop acting like they’re surprised. He still plays at a very high level and he’s the captain of our team. He’s not the problem. If he stays in Toronto after next season at a much lower, reasonable salary, this will serve the team well…and would show a good captain the respect he deserves.

When are teams going to learn that 7 and 8 year contracts are a disaster.. they should be performance based with bonuses. Likely illegal in the nhl
