“You’re NOT A WOMAN Just Because You Got Surgery!” Macy Gray on Transgender Identity

Published 2022-07-04
American R&B and soul singer Macy Gray joins Piers Morgan Uncensored to discuss issues on racial inequality, transgender identity and even the advice successful artist and singer Prince gave her.

Piers asks the 'I Try' singer what her definition of a woman is and Macy gives her response before telling us the methods of identity have become very confusing. She also believes that getting gender reassignment surgey "doesn't make you a woman". Although she is happy to use whichever pronouns someone identifies with, she explains that she feels women go through such a unique experience growing up that trans women cannot truly be called women.

The amount of pure PRIDE and JOY I feel when a beautiful and fearless WOMAN speaks out against this nonsense. THANK YOU MACY!!!
  • @kath6720
I never thought, growing up and learning about suffragettes and all the women who paved the way for us, that someday I would have to explain my gender and actually be afraid. Not ever! Thank you Macy Gray for speaking up at what unfortunately could be of a personal cost to you.

Agreed. Being born female, being a baby girl, becoming a little girl, a teenage girl, a young woman etc… that is something no one can take away from us, nor mimic it into existence, no matter how much they try. It is an experience that cannot be bought, or operated by a doctor into fruition. Being a woman, having a monthly menstrual cycle, becoming pregnant, giving birth to a new life, breastfeeding a baby; no doctor, hormone therapy or medication can or ever will morph your way into or out of this reality. Have all the surgeries you want. Do with your body as you please. Transition if you feel comfortable doing so. Do whatever makes you feel better about yourself. Be happy and content with what makes you comfortable. More power to ya! However, please, be fully aware that no amount of aesthetics will ever make you or turn you into something you’re not nor will ever be. It is what it is and it’s not what it’s not.

“Being a little girl is a whole epic book” is an entire explanation in itself
  • She's so childlike and honest in her responses that it's refreshing, endearing and beautiful. No guile, no trying to sound smart, no trying to be superior, just being yourself and being open. She's so beautiful ❤️
  • @aspen327
I love her quirky personality. She a honest person and down to earth.

What a delightful interview. The main contribution to it being so is because, for once, you didn’t talk over your guest and you actually listened to what she had to say. How I wish you did this for all your interviews Piers. This interview was really worth watching. Thank you.

I really like it when the host and interviewee get on well and appear to have a genuine connection.

There is a vulnerability about her that is so endearing. She speaks from her heart

When she said "growing up as a little girl" explained it all!! So much goes into that as us being born a woman!!! We go through so much with our emotions and bodies. Well said 👏 👏💜💜
  • Her response is legendary💜💜💜 she worded it in a way that no one else was able

What sucks is that she's actually right about everything, and you can tell that she's approaching all of these issues as an artist/thinker, instead of a politician. That doesn't matter to people that only see politics in everything. Even her more "liberal" points like the flag stuff I agree with her on and I'm glad Piers showed the early American flag so that she had an opportunity to point out how ridiculous it is that people are so precious about our current flag that's only been around for a short time. I don't personally aesthetically like her new flag concept, but that isn't the point.

"...Being a little girl is a whole EPIC BOOK, and you can't have that just because you want to be a woman." You can say that again!!! My childhood wasn't dressing up in pink clothes and copying makeup tutorials on YouTube. I love being a woman, but my life wasn't glamorous at all!!! Males who want to be women do not understand that. They want the good time, phony parts they see on TV, but don't realize how nervewracking and complicated life as a young girl can be.
  • @Lyons_T-BAG
Macy Gray has bigger balls than almost all the male celebrities in America.. Speak the truth Macy!
  • @teegeedavid5085
At least someone had the courage to speak the truth. Weldone Macy, you're such a rare gem
  • she is so earthy, grounded and humble, her energy is so calm and soothing even through the screen! What prince said to her "it's not about you." is something we can all take and adapt into our lives, especially this cristal generation that walks around feeling victimized and offended over everything, thinking the world owes them everything.
  • I was never a fan of her music.. but after this very calm debate. I like and admire her alot. She makes alot of sense.
  • Despite her soft voice and her childlike artistry people forget that this is a grown woman who’s lived almost 5 decades in this society. She’s earned the right to speak her truth. Period.
  • @nickyo8467
This is the best I have seen on pair’s show. Genuine, real conversation. No arguing or provoking each other. She made a lot of sense and in a calm, lady like way. Thank you for sharing
  • Great interview. Macy seems a really genuine person. I saw her live 23 years ago. Brilliant show, very entertaining, and I'm into my rock and metal. She was playing before a band I wanted to see at a festival, so I watched her show. Glad I did, she's very funny on stage.
