For context, 'Pumped Up Kicks' wasn't meant to edgy per se. The point of the song was to call out mass shootings and highlight how frequent they've become.
  • "Goodbye Earl" is not just about murder. In the song, Earl beat his wife and broke his restraining order against his ex-wife. It also has the amazing line "it turns out he was a missing person who nobody missed at all".

I can provide some context to the elvis song. Kissing cousins was the name of one of Elvis’s movies where he goes on an army mission to ask these hillbillies to leave the area because the army wants it, and one of the hillbillies is also played by elvis. When the two Elvis’s meet, one of them says “we’re practically kissing cousins” because army elvis falls in love with a hillbilly girl and it’s like she’s kissing the hillbilly elvis because they look similar. Doesn’t excuse how weird the song is, but yeah
  • The spouse being offed in "Goodbye Earl" is a literal wife-beater, so no big loss there. The girls did have a disclaimer in the liner notes stating that they do not condone violence, though.

Pumped Up Kicks was playing ALL the time over the radio for a hot couple of months. I've always enjoyed that song, hearing the lyrics when I first heard the song. I saw it as a way of bringing attention to school shootings. It's a good song. When I watched friends jamming to the song, not listening to the lyrics, I ask them to pay attention to them for the first time during their next listen.
  • The R.Kelly Version of Do What U Want isn’t around anymore due to Gaga actively getting it removed due to the R.Kelly court case. Even when she recorded it she didnt want him on it but succumbed to pressure from the label. The only way to listen to that version is to have it on physical platforms
  • I never knew "Let's get this started" wasn't actually the actual song too! Now that I know, I can't ever go back 😢
  • 11:39 With Blurred Lines, as far as I'm aware, there was also some conduct by Thicke behind the scenes that was pretty unacceptable with the women in the video, which considering the song's subject matter just makes it...ugh.

I thought everyone knew about the Black Eyed Peas song. It was so controversial when it came out that they had to change the lyrics.I thought it was hilarious, and was a bit surprised they were able to come back from it. It happened right around the time it was becoming unacceptable to use that word.
  • A lot of these songs came out around the same time (90s-2000s). Definitely a different time.

I remember "Pumped Up Kicks" being very popular in Poland. You can still hear it on the radio

Still remember the first time I heard Kim, it’s still the only song I find disturbing, it’s so incredibly violent in subject and interpretation. I know that other songs on the list had more real implications, as I think the Eminem one was just an expression of his anger but not something that actually happened; in that sense the Aaliah one is incredibly sad, also the ones that make consent a joke are very concerning.

Joel got me in trouble, I told the police officer, not to worry it's apple juice 🍺 he didn't buy it, I had it on a shirt too, still didn't buy it
  • Speaking of songs by R Kelly that didn’t age well……..yes, all of them.
  • @BeachDreamere
Pumped Up Kicks is still played on the radio today. I heard it last week.
  • 8:11 In Slovakia, this song is still played semi-frequently on some radio stations (namely Rádio Slovensko)

I remember my friends and I being in our teens and listening to stuff like Akinyele's "Put it in Your Mouth" and Khia's "My Neck My Back" and laughing, thinking we were being sooooooo naughty. Granted those songs are about consensual...activities, but they sure are explicit. I've been grappling with whether I should purge music from my library if the human behind it is questionable. Figuring out if I can separate the art from the artist has been challenging. Why do people have to suck?

Every new uploaded video brings "By the way welcome back to another video I'm Joel from Roomie Official..." one second closer to the ending. Counting days till I can hear it in the very end of the video, instead in the beginning, because now it's way past the middle section (10/16th ) . April Fools idea, guys? please? :) <3

For some reason, my local top 40 radio station played the original version of the Black Eyed Peas song for awhile before switching to the edited version. It was really odd
